Let Me Tell Ya 'Bout the Birds and the Bees....
....and the flowers and the trees. Do ya hate me now that you'll be stuck on that song all day every time you see this?
Let Me Tell Ya 'Bout the Birds and the Bees.... Photo

Anyway - I have a 6 year old daughter who will be 7 in a little over a week. She's starting to ask some pretty difficult questions and I know it's only a matter of time before I need to have some sort of talk with her. I have a couple concerns...
1) I want to be the one that she first hears about this stuff from (I don't her to hear it from the kids at school)
2) I don't want her to so informed about this stuff that she's schooling all her little classmates on it

I'm pretty sure I know how to go about it - even though these kids don't come with a manual - but I just wanted to get everyone's take on how they went about it or plan to when they have kids.

Question 1: What age range did you / do you plan to have "the talk" with your child(ren)?
When they start going to school (K - 1st)
This age...
I don't want anything to do with that - that's all on my spouse (but this age...)
My kid told ME about the Birds and Bees
I haven't thought about it yet - YIKES!
I don't/won't have kids

Question 2: How did you/do you plan on going about telling them?
Get a book (not porn!) that we can look through and talk about together
Just sit down and give the basics, and ask if they have questions
Wait(ed) until they ask(ed), and simply answer(ed) their questions
I haven't thought about that yet - YIKES!
I have a funny story actually...here's what happened...
I don't/won't have kids

Like it?

+6 thumbs upJess---I don't have kids, but I remember when my mom had the talk with me. I was 7 or 8, and she had to because my older sister was pregnant. My mom got me story books from her work (hospital). All was good until I started informing my friends on what I knew. Then I had another talk with my mom.

WARNING---If she knows too much, it will come out in school---TRUST ME on this one!

+1 thumbs upIf they are asking, then it's the right age!  Just be honest with them and put it in words they will understand. The complicated stuff can come later.

+1 thumbs upSlap a chastity belt on her as soon as she starts school. Luckily I only have two little boys to worry about.  When you have a daughter you have to worry about all the boys.
