+8 thumbs upTearing my mcl in my knee changed my life so much it helped me see who my real friends were and it helped me choose a different path for my life and education. I figured i was going to go to college and just focus on soccer but i got hurt my senior year and didn't get to play soccer right out of highschool. I had to focus on my education a lot more and im glad that i did. I eventually got to play soccer in college and it was amazing but now i find my self more focused on my education and i am truly thankful for that i can see the finish line now!

+8 thumbs upI have experienced so many turns in my life that have truly changed me. Most of them are of a spiritual nature but suffice it to say that prayer was an integral part in each and every one of them. I may return to give more specifics depending on how the tone of this poll plays out.

+14 thumbs upI think everything that happens in life affects you in some way. However, for this poll it would have to be----My dad being diagnosed with lung cancer (March), my uncle dying suddenly at the age of 55 three months later (May), my grandma dying 3 months after (August) that, and my dad passing on later that same year in November. What I learned from all this is to not take for granted that the people you love will always be there---love them now, let them know, and live the best life you can live.

+12 thumbs upEvery day when you wake up your life is going to alter in some way, large or small, good or bad.  Every day is what you make it.  Nothing ever happens just because it's the way it's suppose to be, it happens because you let it or you change it.  It's the greatest gift God gave us.  Free choice.  I could say it's the day my brother took his life, but that was his choice not mine.  It was my choice how I let it affect me and what I learned from the experience.  You can make experiences make you bitter or better, learn from them or go on the same way you always have.  It's your choice.

+17 thumbs upThe loss of my best friend three years ago.  My dad being diagnosed with bladder cancer last year.  The loss of a friend's two year old child about a month ago.  I am learning not to take things or people that I love forgranted.

I'm glad you didn't take that bad report and go sit in a corner to sulk. You are remarkable and I'm so glad you're my friend.

+9 thumbs upI wasn't sure whether to even reply to this one, because it's so painful and I'm still dealing with it, but reading others I figured I could as well.  I've had many, but the hardest, most life altering would have to be losing my Dad just a year ago this month.  It is without a doubt the hardest thing I've ever had to get thru, it hits me every single day,  I was the only one with him when he took his last breath, and it tortures me all the time when I wonder if I could have done more to help him.  My Dad died of congestive heart failure, but it was still a shock, we weren't expecting it, he had done so well for 10 years, he is my hero, he was always so brave.... So yeah, losing my Dad would have to be the most life altering event.

+7 thumbs upI've known people who have passed away from cancer and it was sad, but you know everyone has their time to go.  But when it happens to someone you grew up with, it hits you much harder.  I was in an indian guides type program when I was younger.  One of the girls I grew up with in that group passed away a couple years ago at the age of 17 during chemo for a massive kidney tumor.  That made me realize how lucky I really am to be a healthy young man.  I never thought something like that could happen, and it certainly put a new perspective on life for me.
