NASCAR.com Poll 7/12/08

We've heard the rumors and scenarios for a while, but Thursday it finally happened.  The news broke that Tony Stewart had been released from the final year of his contract with JGR, giving him the opportunity to buy into his own team.  Today, NASCAR.com asks about his performance without Home Depot and JGR behind him.

How will Tony Stewart fare next year with his new team?

+2 thumbs upI think the team will have a few good runs next season, but I don't think he'll be able to have that much of an impact on the team to be able to compete with Hendrick, Roush, and Gibbs for winning races.

+1 thumbs upnever discredit a good driver because he switches teams...being part owner I expect him to contend for it all!

I just don't see him winning next season.  Tony is one of the better drivers on the track right now but Haas/CNC is NOT one of the better teams.  They haven't had a Top 15 finish all year (except in a non-points race) and they've failed to qualify a few times.  Tony can't turn a team like that around overnight without a lot of help.  I think it will take at least one full season to get everything in place to become truly competitive.

He's smoke.  Now that the decision is made, he will be a front runner for the rest of the year, and continue to next year!

JGR has been doing wonders with toyota this year (thanks kyle).

I think it might depend on what car he takes, with chevy being the frontrunner (unless i completely missed this announcement already).  i say he plays strong finishes about 16 in the chase, maybe not wins, but lots of 5-10's.

If he gets a couple of wins he is surely making the Chase. Don't be retarded, you think he will win a few races and what? Finish 35-43 every other week. C'mon.

Nah, in today's NASCAR winning a few races doesn't necessarily equate to anything.  Heck JG won the 500 and a couple of other races right off the bat a couple years ago and missed the Chase (granted that was when only 10 guys made it).

That was in 2005, he also had 9 DNF's....That will contribute to that, he also missed the Chase by 30 points. Stewart will make it....

In 2 years, I look for him to be a MAJOR contender, may even make the chase next year.
But that is about all he will have, I think.
