Pet Peeves at the Workplace (Edited 07/21/08 09:42PM by Seth)

Today at work I went and walked around the building a few times on my break. When I returned, I went straight to the freezer to grab one of my Fudgesicles. I grabbed the box, AND IT WAS EMPTY!! Last friday, there were 3 in the box! Believe me, I keep track!! Another thing is that people are constantly using my butter. That doesn't seem like too big of a deal, except for the fact that they leave toast crumbs and unidentifiable objects in it! Keep in mind that I label EVERYTHING with "Kelly's-Keep Out-Not Free!!".

How do you feel about this? Do any of you have similar complaints about your job? They don't necessarily have to be food related, just any gripes about co-workers in general.

I can't stand lazy people.  I work at UPS, and there's really no room for laziness because you miss packages and someone else has to bring them back to you.  I've spoken to the one person in particular who this peeve on a daily basis.

I also can't stand it when people expect me to read their minds.  Last I checked, I'm not clairvoyant.  Someone had something to say about me last week because I didn't drop what I was doing to help her with a heavy package.  Number one, I was busy loading my own container so I didn't notice her package weighed 72 pounds as it went by me.  Number two, she didn't say "Hey, Christi, can you help me load this package?"  Once again, I had to nip that one in the bud.  Don't talk sh#t unless YOU"VE taken the necessary steps to communicate what you need!!!!

No, I LOVE  butter. I dip my french fries in butter. The best is Land O Lakes Spreadable butter. MMMM...

And the funny thing is, I even wrote "Leave this alone-I spit in here" on my current container of butter. I even made a pattern with the plastic knife so I could tell if someone was using it, and guess what?!?! The pattern was all messed up! I really didn't spit in it, but I thought that, of all things, would persuade people not to use it!!!!

+1 thumbs upSo as a response to my answer to #2- I did send out an email to all the people in my office (35 people) asking them to please buy their own butter, and I even clipped 4 coupons for butter and margerine (Derms!!!) and they were all gone the next day. And listen to this- my supervisor's name is Kelly also, and she came up to me last week and said that she was in the kitchen and "someone" ( I told her I didn't want to know who the thief was) grabbed her butter, spread it on their toast, and went to put it away. Supervisor Kelly said "Hey, don't put that away, I'm gonna use it". The "thief" said, "Oh, you use her butter too?"  ?!?!?! It was really the supervisor Kelly's butter, not mine! We both have the same kind though. But can you believe that sh*t?!?!!?! OK, I'm done complaining now. Thanks for listening.

Mostly I just hate the laziness.  Like when the shelf is full of a product and instead of putting extras up in topstock someone will CRAM the shelf full and spill over into another items spot.; then when that item comes in there is no room..... OR (and this one REEEALLY makes me mad) when a co-worker sells an order and doesn't pull it and then I wind up busting my butt to pull it AND the customer has to wait and they are mad and they say "they told me they would have it ready."  GRRRRrrrrrrrrr

And Cristi nailed the lack of communication on the head.  I can't read minds.  I can't magically know why a file is out on the desk.  I can't pick up where someone else left off on a job folder whose status is unknown.

Wow- I am SO ready for a week off and looking forward to this transfer.  New store, new faces, maybe different management style, but same job title and familiar products.

Mmmm- that Land O' Lakes Spreadable is good.  I changed over to just regular sticks of butter though and I leave the covered dish out on the counter so it's not hard.  I know the container is very convenient for work though.

There are 3 different entities in my building, and there is a lot of bad blood between the three groups.  To make it worse, only one break room to share.  On top of that, my department in the new kid (only been here for 15 years).  There is an unwritten "rule" that it is OK to stealt food, office supplies, etc. from us.  E-mails, notes from management, speeches from management all did nothing, so my deparetment solved it ourselves.  We all pitched in, bought a fridge, a microwave and a water cooler and built our own break room in a spare office.  Only our department has the key, so now what is ours, stays ours.

My biggest office pet peeve is the "coat-tailer."  This is the guy, or gal that jumps onto a project just before you finish and claims credit for the whole thing, when in reality they have done nothing but ride your coat tails.

I used to work as an auditor for a company that owned a bunch of car dealerships.  I was just out of college so money was a little tight.  About a week into the job, I caught a salesman going through my lunch.  I asked him what he was doing and he says, "Chill out dude, I was hungry."  I told him, "Chill out dude...if I catch you going through my lunch again I'll kick your f***ing a$$."  His manager just happened to walk by as this happened.  Apparently, the manager's lunch had been raided several times and now he had his culprit.  That salesman didn't last too long.

***Moral of the story:  Don't mess with a fat guy's food!

People talking on the radio.  We have people who just loveeeeeeee to talk on the radio.  U'd think it was making their members bigger.  It drives me insane.  It's 3 people in particular, all in positions of authority, yet none serving any real purpose, except for one that's a control freak, but that's another story.  And it's all useless chatter.  But if anyone other than them get on the ready, they'll make a point in our weekly meeting to address proper radio transmission and to keep things to a minimum, but it's usually volunteer engineers (driver operators) who r saying they're coming for apparatus so other members can go straight to the scene.  And now we're dispatched via 800, but we use VHF fireground so that's more radio talk and these guys r cock fighting and it has nothing to do w/ chickens!  Meanwhile, the duty guy, the one who's tail will be on the line after the crap hits the fan, hasn't gotten a word in edgewise, and he's most likely the only guy who actually knows what's going on and...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!  Ok, I feel better now.
