because they proved you can be under 16 and win a Gold - age is not a barrier

+3 thumbs upThese athletes know that they're lying to the world, and by participating in this atrocity to the Games, they're just as guilty as the IOC. The athletes who lied should be stripped of their medals and China should absolutely be banned from ever hosting the Olympics again.
The IOC should issue an apology and an investigation should be conducted into the members of the IOC, and the committe members who chose to overlook China's actions should be removed.

+2 thumbs upI commented about China in another thread (poll). They should have never been allowed to host in the first place. The IOC has once again proved that all they care about is who can wine and dine them the best. And at this time China has a lot of cash to throw around, thanks to the massive trade imbalance with the US. I wouldn't be surprised to see Iran or Venezuela on their list for the next available summer games.

+2 thumbs upThis is a two sided question.  It is yes if politics are not a part of the Olympic movement.  But that is for sure not the case.  So letting China host the games, given all the human rights violations they have a record of, was a tremendous hypocritical move on the part of the IOC.

+1 thumbs upThat's not the point and you know it. The point is that there are rules in place and one of them is that you have to be 16 years of age to participate, period, end of story. China knew this, rather knows this and yet still decided to usurp them because they knew their other female gymnasts weren't as good and it was very important to the Chinese government to propagandize their "dominance" to their people.

Politics plays a role, sadly, in the Olympics, although it should not. That's just a fact. But to blatantly lie and then try to cover that lie up deserves their entire gymnastics male and female team to be striped of all their gold medals, as well as be banned for two years from all gymnastics competition. You get banned for doping - cheating - you get banned for this as well.

But thanks for posting the comment.

Cheers!!

+1 thumbs upIf those are the cities on the list. Then I am happy to be proven wrong. Point I was trying to make is they seem to award the games to whom ever wines and dines them the best. For the record I didn't actually think Iran would want the games, It would be too hard for women to compete covered in one of those Burka's. And Venezuela doesn't have the cash or resources to put forth a bid. But if either of these two could throw out enough incentitives the IOC would probably consider them.

Since the scandal regarding the Salt Lake games, the process has changed.  The voting IOC members no longer visit the cities bidding.  The bidders now come to the IOC.  Not that this completely stops the "gifts" and other inducements, but it does make it a tad more difficult.
