+9 thumbs upIt's supposed to be the countries best, right?  So be it.  If other countries are going to do it, so should we.  If we can all actually get to a point where everyone will only send amateur athletes, then I would prefer that...it would be more interesting, I think...but whatever...as long as I get to see the events live, the I could care less (yes, yet another jab at NBC).

I said "No" but that would be in a perfect world.  It came to the point that the U.S. was the only one that was was sending non pros. I say non pro because there was probably some help in the background for our US guys and gals..  Since there was no way to police the athletes in the communist  bloc countries it was rediculous  to keep trying to keep pros out of the Olympics.  I still would prefer to see amateurs competing but as athletics has lost it's innocence ti will never be again.

it used to be about athletes competing on a level playing field, now it seems who has the most cash and can afford the best of everything will come out infront most of the time, and if all professional athletes are allowd to compete where are the reps from pro boxing?

Ya'll do realize that Track & Field competitors are basically Professional at a very HIGH percentage.  The top notch T & F guys and gals can become millionaires in Europe...that is how popular it is over there.  So, if you say amatuers only; there'd be NO one running races, lol.
I agree in theory that amatuers would be idyllic; but in today's world pros with their financial backing and the money they bring into the sport and the venues themselves is potentially a very good thing.

No no no no!!

Professionals completely undermine the spirit of the games.  Pros have their own arenas to shine in.  The last bastion for amateur athletes was the Olympics.  No more.

The way I see it, since all pros are being allowed to play then they should stop policing the drug use.  Just let the athletes take whatever they heck they want.
