Should season tickets be a tax write off?
I have been getting a lot of headaches lately because I have gotten swept into all the political talk on this site. As a result I have been thinking about other polls to create. Meanwhile I get a letter in the mail from the Los Angeles Kings telling me when to expect my season tickets, and BAM===I got my next poll question. Should season tickets be a tax write off? I know they are for businesses, but I want to know if you think they should be for us regular folks?

+7 thumbs upI chose yes because attending Kings games keep me sane during the year (where I have to deal with parents, students, a principal, peers, etc..). I would say my season tickets fall under the category EMOTIONAL THERAPY! It is at these games I am able to release my anger/aggression (yes the fan actions on this site are nice--but nothing beats "trash talking" live and in person ). Having these games as a outlet for all my aggression serves well for our youth/future, and makes me a better teacher-------------Therefore, I believe I should be able to write this "therapy" off on my taxes.

+8 thumbs upI say that if "Big Business" can write them off on their taxes, then Mom and Pop should be able to do so as well.......

+5 thumbs upI'm for lowering taxes across the board...so of course I agree with this.  Our current income tax system is a joke.

Although, in Atlanta, Falcons' season tickets are going for as low as $250 (too bad they don't play the Cowboys this year)!  That's not going to help exceed the old standard deduction!

Why, do that the teams will get rich and us fans will have to suffer because of the loss of good players from teams that are barely making it now.

+3 thumbs upWhat? What are you talking about?

Anyway... I'm all for it. The team is often supported by city revenue, and the team itself brings great revenue to the city in return, so a tax break makes perfect sense.

Pat's comment pretty much sums it up, you buy season tickets and you're supporting the team.  The team itself is a huge boost in revenue to the city they play in.  You're giving money to the team who in turn is providing the city with incredible financial support with YOUR money that you already paid them.  So you're in a sense paying the city already for the season tickets (in a roundabout way).  A tax break for season tickets is a great idea for those who have them, if nothing else for taxes to the city, because as a season ticket holder you're paying the city more.

I hope this makes sense.

+4 thumbs upSharks season Tickets are very expensive and I can't afford them anymore, but if you could write them off on taxes I would get them back in a heartbeat. Like K.T. said, going to Sharks games is such a thrill and distraction from the stress of everday life it should be something that should be tax deductable. It's just pure, clean fun to go to any NHL Game.
