He can also play 3B extremely well, and their lineup is excellent. Once Papi comes back, we wouldn't need Tex at all. Also, CRAIG Hansen has good potential as a solid reliever, which is the Sox' biggest area of need right now. But what you don't realize, is that Youkilis is actually having a BETTER year than Teixeira right now. He has slightly better overall offensive numbers than Tex, and can provide gold glove caliber defense at 1B, and also 3B if needed. Also, he's only making $3M, compared to Teixeira's $12.5M. And at the end of the season, when both are free agents, Youkilis is more likely to want to stay with the Sox, and is also more likely to sign for cheaper. Teixeira will most likely be demanding at least $15M per year, while Youkilis will be able to offer the same quality of play, but for $10M max, most likely. Throw in Hansen, who has potential to be an excellent arm out of the bullpen, and this deal would be a terrible one for the Sox. No, they should not trade Kevin Youkilis and greg Hansen for Mark Teixeira of the Atlanta Brave

#10 \| 130 days ago snbslugger (+)	(Edited by snbslugger) +2 Youk is a Gold Glove first baseman, has an on-base consistently over .400, and is about 1/4 of the cost of Teixeira. I think Hansen's going to be a bust, but you can get a lot of bullpen help with the $9M salary difference between Youkilis and Tex. The only way I'd ever see this trade happening is if Ortiz was lost for the year, and he's projected to return on July 25. Teixeira will be a New York Yankee next year, replacing the aging Jason Giambi at 1B/DH. That's a very strong likelihood. Kevin is of coarse having a year that any Red Sox would wnat. He is a top canidate for the race in MVP, and i hope to see him carry this season throughout the second half. But Mark is of coarse a young player who hasnt entered his prime and will be a great player for any team in his future. Im sure the Red Sox would love to have Mark on the team for that extra help but now isnt the time with Kevin having such a great year.
