+4 thumbs up

We lost our main source of employment in November 2007. Our pinching started then but now? Seems the economic down-slide has others realizing what Billy and I have been dealing with for 7 months.

We cook more from scratch and eat at home. We are not attending as many NASCAR events as we have in previous years. I probably won't be driving to Michigan as much this Summer to see the grand-kids. Their parents are certainly unable to afford to bring them here.

We definitely need to do things differently here. I know there are those who feel the effects of this much worse than we do. Honestly, I don't know how some families survive this mess.

This I do know...I never have been one to depend on "things" and I won't start now.

+3 thumbs upBeing a poor 19 year old college student, I won't be changing a whole lot.  I was barely effecting the economy to start with.  One thing we could start doing though is demanding our government and particularily the oil companies to start investing in alternative fuels.  Cheap fuels will do wonders in bringing down prices.

+3 thumbs upI am so tired of gas prices... yesterday the gas station by my house raised prices .06$ in a matter of three hours.  I went to class in the morning, came home- of course to get gas, on my way back, and there ya go ... $4.15 for regular unleaded.... I am going to have to take out more money in student loans just to pay for my freakin' gas.  Everything is increasing because of gas...groceries, airline tickets, the transit systems.... and if you start spending more time at home, then your freakin' electric bill & gas bill increases.  I am so disgusted with our government.

+3 thumbs upWhat pisses me off is when I hear that "big oil" makes a 3-4 billion dollar profit every quarter. While we're paying $4-$4.50 a gallon for gas. Why doesn't the government get involved? HMMM thanks Bush!!

I would agree to some point. But it would raise prices on goods more than they already are.

Gas today in Clemson, SC was $3.85.

So, I'm doing some things I don't like to do:

A.  I'm using coupons when I shop at the market(s).  YUCK!!!

B.  Note I said markets...I used to shop ONE, now I go to three to get the best deals and they are all within 2 miles.

C.  We are a 1 car family (Honda CRV) and I drive my wife to work and I do the shopping and the errands.  We've dropped going out to lunch four times a week to two times a week because the places have raised their prices on average 20%.

D.  I am aggressively writing my congressman regarding the drilling for oil here in the U.S. including the Alaskan oil fields; disregarding the Gov. of Alaska about gouging the U.S. for creating a pipeline for getting oil to the 48 state(jerk!)

E.  I am aggressively burning up the e-mail to Washington to FORCE Detroit to move to 80 mpg cars within one year or face a $1 Billion fine every fiscal quarter until they do and that they CANNOT pass that fine on to the car buying public!

D.  I am aggressively burning up the e-mail to Washington to aggressively offer a HUGE prize for a Hygrogen Vehicle and a design for "stations" that could be developed across America and then awarding the companies that begin developing them for the public---too bad if it isn't DETROIT---slugs that are in Detroit for money only!

+1 thumbs upI didn't vote for him. And I realize you didn't say I did. But the only reason he's was elected to 4 more years was because of the war. People are afraid to elect a new President while the nation is at war. Even if the war has no just.

+2 thumbs upIt didn't help that John Kerry had to be one of the worst presidential candidates ever.  We didn't have a good choice that year.

+1 thumbs upI know we tend to point fingers at the head of the snake, like the manager/coach is the one who gets the ax when things rn't going well, but lets look at the rest of the team too.  Since becoming a Democratically controlled congress, gas prices went from an avg of $2.19 to what they r today.  Ok, I got that from an email, but I did at least check it out on Snopes.  While they called it false, the information was accurate.  They called it false saying it u couldn't call it a Democratically controlled Congress.  I don't know what else u'd call it though, I know Jon Stewart was pretty darn happy it happened.

Truth be told, there isn't one single decent politician that will be allowed to get big enough to make a difference for us.  I'm sure there's people who strive to make a diff, who want to fight for us, but they probably never get higher than a town council, and they're few and far between as it is.
