The Bad News Bear Goes Bye-Bye (Edited 10/26/08 10:51PM by Seth)

After his boating DUI Charge Cedric Benson remained a starting Running Back in the eyes of Coach Lovie Smith and the Chicago Bears. His weekend DUI charge while in a car in Austin, TX has led to his release, however. The Bears placed Benson on Monday, 2 years before the endof his contract and 3 years into a disappointing career with the team.

Question #3---By the time the season starts I think that Forte will be starting and here is why:

Strengths: When described on his bio as a "creative open-field runner," it hints at what made Forte appealing to the Bears. That and the 4.47 he clocked in the 40-yard dash. He is known as a solid runner with good vision who is rugged between the tackles.

Weaknesses: He runs more upright than some scouts would like and wasn't necessarily known for his blocking with the Green Wave. The only other knock was that he was a one-cut runner and may lack an array of moves and might not have breakaway, Devin Hester-like speed.

I don't think the Bears will go out and buy another pig in a poke with cash that can be spent elsewhere.  They have a couple of seviceable runners to use until Forte has time to get the playbook down...He is SMART, it was Tulane for heaven's sake!  This kid can run between the tackles and create past the line of scimmage; he'll be fine once he's on the field!!!!!

+2 thumbs up..2nd the Travis Henry acquisition!...I remember when this guy got drafted. He had much to complain about, regarding how he was poked and prodded during the draft evaluation process..give me a break! Look what he's done with the opportunity that GOD gave him...so sad.

I think after the first mini-camp they'll decide what free-agent RB to go after.     It all depends on Forte'; if he's more of a power runner then they'll look for more of a 'slasher' free-agent.     If Forte' is more of a slasher-style, then they'll look for more of a power back.

Personally, I expect them to go after Alexander......and I think Forte' is going to be a good RB.

(also, I'd be careful using the term 'poked & prodded' in the same sentence as Travis Henry !!!)

+2 thumbs upI think the Bears were waiting for an excuse to cut him. He has been sort of a PR nightmare from the start. No to mention the Bears traded the wrong rb lst season. He maybe innocent until proven guilty but with the way Goddell is cracking down on behavior even as going to the point of fining team this will start to happen more and more. Plus he isnt that good. He is lucky Selvin Young was hurt his Soph season at Texas or Benson probably would have been splitting carries or been on the bench

+1 thumbs upI don't think the Bears will go after Alexander for 2 reason 1 they ain't gonna pay him the money that he is gonna want and 2 i don't they are lookin at him he is just floating them around the NFL no one really is really acting like they want him I don't think They were lookin for a reason to cut him i think they were just trying to stop something bigger from happen and stop them from getting fine because they new rule is that if the player does something the team gets fine they should give it to the back up i mean his numbers are really good for a back up and this is why they have him for reasons like this and i think they will take the cheap why out and just us the back up

Why would they bring in another back with extremely questionable character after all the problems they've had with Benson over the last couple years?

because that's how the NFL works...not saying I like it or agree with it...just saying how it is (from my perception).

+1 thumbs upI agree that they'll go after Travis Henry. I hate to say it but yeah I think Benson will play for another team sometime in the near future unfortunately. Someone will be dumb enough. Don't be surprised if he gets picked up by the Bengals and joins the list of convicts. Or who knows he may just go join Pacman and his old teammate Tank Johnson in Dallas and turn the Boys into the new Bengals!

thats all rash don't you think yea i unerstand that some of the players on the Bengals squad have some problems but year in and year out they ahve been doing really good with the problems from Chad to Chris they have manged make the playoffs alot and Pacman was in the wrong spot at the wrond time and with the wrong type of people the NFL has been telling there player watch who you hang out with because it will reflect bad on you and te don't listen and they het in trouble (i.e. Micheal Vick) i just think that Packman is going to a good place and they will keep him outta trouble now with Benson he just needs to stay outta Texas all together but he is a good player and whoever picks him up is gonna have to work with him alot with the off field problems but when he shows up to play he plays

+1 thumbs upI'll admit that Cincy is better about their player conduct now but they certainly haven't made the playoffs a lot. They made the playoffs when they won the division in 2005 and haven't done anything since. And when was the last time they made the playoffs before then? One time in years isn't a lot. I disagree about Pacman. He's simply had problems in the past. He almost shot somebody. I think he could turn it around in Dallas. Cause look at Owens. He hasn't destroyed the team yet. As for Benson, he still has potential if he can get his act together but I don't think he's capable of carrying a team on his shoulders. With what he's shown so far, he can share the load but not carry it.
