TheShrewdOne's Thievery - NFL Franchise Players Part Buccaneers (Edited 08/11/08 01:04PM by theshrewdone)
Read the Article: NFL Franchise Players

ESPN is doing an interesting poll and since I'm not very original, I'm stealing it!

Essentially, they want to know who the best player from each particular franchise is...all time!

Again, as with all my "thievery polls", I did not decide who to put on the list...if you want to get angry, yell at ESPN...or me for stealing their poll.

Buccaneers Link

You know you haven't been a good team when I've personally seen all but 2 people play on your "best franchise player" list...and even those two were active in my life (yes I know...relatively young team who only had 4 years to play before I was born...but I stand by my point)!

FYI Derrick Brooks with 44.1% on the ESPN...my vote is for Sapp, though.

+2 thumbs upI  would have to go with Williams. Before he got there the Bucs were the laughing stock of the NFL. When he became the starter in 1979 he led the Bucs to the NFC title game only 2 years after the Bucs started their NFL career with 26 straight losses. He took the Bucs to the playoffs 3 times in 4 years. If Culverhouse wasnt such a cheap owner who knows what Tampa could have been. Until Dungy got there the Bucs would not experience the winning like Williams brought to Tampa. Too put it better from 1983-1996 the bucs lost at least 10 games every year but one.

+2 thumbs upSoooooooooooooo tough. I went back and forth between Lee Roy and Mr. Brooks. Warren Sapp HIMSELF has been quoted saying it "was Brooks' team" and he was just a big part of it. Lee Roy was nearly unblockable for three years and produced a fearsome defense before Dungy. In the end Selmon's career cut short with injury, had to go with #55. He is the most beloved Buccaneer in this household and between he and Alstott the most popular Bucs ever.
