TheShrewdOne's Thievery - NFL Franchise Players Part Colts (Edited 08/11/08 02:56PM by theshrewdone)
Read the Article: NFL Franchise Players

ESPN is doing an interesting poll and since I'm not very original, I'm stealing it!

Essentially, they want to know who the best player from each particular franchise is...all time!

Again, as with all my "thievery polls", I did not decide who to put on the list...if you want to get angry, yell at ESPN...or me for stealing their poll.

Colts Link

The Low Down:

Raymond Berry, WR (1955-67):
One of the first modern receiving stars, led league in catches and yards three times.

Art Donovan, DT (1950, 1954-61):
As good a player as a character, Hall of Famer was first-team All-Pro four times.

Marvin Harrison, WR (1996-present):
Quietly putting up record-challenging career, currently fifth all time in receiving yards.

Edgerrin James, RB (1999-2005):
Replaced Marshall Faulk, rushed for 9,226 yards, 72 TDs in seven seasons with Colts.

John Mackey, TE (1963-71):
Helped redefine position as downfield threat, five-time Pro Bowler, Hall of Famer.

Peyton Manning, QB (1998-present):
Has started first 160 games, won Super Bowl, on pace to break most passing records.

Gino Marchetti, DE (1953-66):
Named first-team All-Pro seven times, 11-time Pro Bowler en route to Canton.

Lenny Moore, RB (1956-67):
Dynamic offensive threat totaled 5,174 rushing yards, 6,039 receiving yards in career.

Jim Parker, OL (1957-67):
Named first-team All-Pro eight seasons in a row, split between guard and tackle.

Johnny Unitas, QB (1956-72):
Led league in passing yards and touchdowns four times.

Another interesting one...Johnny U or Peyton?  Tough call.  ESPN says Peyton with 57%...Johnny U pulling 40.5%...Marvin comes up a close third with 1%!

Peyton Manning

Johnny Unitas

those seem to tell the tale pretty effectively.  I understand and appreciate what Johnny U did, especially considering the times...but Manning has essentially eclipsed every stat that matters...and he's still going to be around for another 5+ years.

+1 thumbs upI voted for Johnny U. But has Edge been with the Colts long enuff to warrant being one of the best Colts ever?

+2 thumbs upI think if he stays healthy, by the time he is done...Peyton will certainly be the man. but old Johnny U won many playoff games in bad weather. Peyton needs a few more good postseasons before I'll drop Johnny U.

+2 thumbs upI think if the current playoff system was in place during all of Johnny U's days... he'd have won more championships. He may have been the greatest QB pre 1970.

Close third? LOL. Just curious, because my system for whatever reason won't pull up the article....how was the other 1.5% distributed?
