One thing that I have learned from being married...

When men go grocery shopping, they go to buy food for one meal.  They end up spending $60-$80 because they have to buy all of the neat things that they see on the way (and we pick up a thing or two specifically for our wives, like it is going to make spending all of that extra money better).

When the wives go shopping, they spend $60-$80 and it is enough food to feed us for a week.  And the guys feel lucky if she comes back with some extra treats for us.

When the wives go shopping and take the men with them, it's like taking kids to the store.  "Put that back!!!  It's not necessary!"

But seriously, I don't see how you ladies can go to the store and spend so little money and make it go a long way.  It's impossible for me to do it.

Actually the most important things I learned from my first marriage is - Don't sweat the small stuff and pick your battles wisely because they might turn into wars you can't win(for both sides).

yep, at how to stop any argument that potentially could happen with your spouse by saying the magical word "OK"-- works 90+% of the time.

or how to never, ever, ever lose contact with your friends as you go on in life due to a relationship.

or-- eh, somethings have to be experienced for yourself.

Actually my ex-wife and I were the exact opposite. I could go buy food for two weeks and drinks for about $100- $125 (in the late '90s). She would go get stuff to make chicken parm. and would come home with all name brand items and some magazines and some chocolate and some ice cream and some whatever else she decided to pick up along the way. She would then come home and complain that we didn't have any money.

P.S. That was a battle I picked. Oh boy was that a good one too.

+5 thumbs upWhat doesen't kill you will only make ya stonger, and as for marriage...i've learned it kinda like a diplomia and a GED....With a diplomia, you get a nice little display case for it, yet with a GED...you're offered college courses up the wahzoo and loans you don't have to pay back.  Being married, it's all divided down the middle and divorces cost ya even more.  With having a S.O. there are NO paper ties yet one still gets the perks and benifits of the "I Do" commitment.

My Mom and step-Dad taught me that knowing how to laugh at life and pick on each other while still cherishing your partner is a healthy way to keep a marriage strong.

I myself have learned that when you know yourself very well, you may be better equipped to be in a relationship.

It's not really name brand stuff with me.  Just simple crap.  We might be having steak and decide we want some potatoes too.  So I go to get some potatoes.  While I'm there, I decide that twice baked potatoes would be better, so I HAVE to get some sour cream and cheese (because I'm not sure if we have any, and cell phones don't always get reception in a grocery store or Wal Mart).

Then I see some chips that I want.  And if I'm at Wal Mart, I'm a sucker for new movies, so I go check to see what came out this week.  Then to counter the stuff that I bought for me, I decide to get one of those chocolate pies, thinking my wife will forget about ALL the other stuff I bought.  Sometimes I'll be nice and pick her up a magazine that she really likes too.

p.s.  She never asks for any of this stuff.  I just get it "out of the kindness of my heart".
