NFL ResultsSkip to Next Poll » When fantasy quickly becomes reality
It happens once every year. You just hope you're not "that guy".That guy has just recently completed his fantasy football draft, and optimism abounds. The perfect team has been assembled, not even a tandem of Peyton Manning and Larry Johnson can get in the way of that elusive championship. But then it all comes crashing down ... less than 24 hours after triumphantly making your first round selection. Let's hope your first round pick wasn't Clinton Portis. Mine was. You may think preseason football is an opportunity for players to get into shape and for coaches to make those tough roster decisions. But really, it's a chance for fantasy football owners to become acquainted with the men who will decide their fate each Sunday. So there I was last night, a little QT with my man Clinton. Just 8 plays into the game, Portis lay sprawled on the turf reaching for his shoulder. This wasn't the result of a tough run up the middle, but a downfield tackle defending an interception return. Brilliant! I can only take some solace in knowing a couple hundred thousand other fantasy owners share my pain. However, when forced to confront my waiver wire options of Samkon Gado, Ron Dayne, and Michael Pittman, I'd rather just join Portis with a dislocated shoulder of my own. Clinton Portis refers to this press conference character as "Rev. Gonna Change," well I'll be holding out hope we see Rev. Gonna Get Healthy, between now and September 10th.
