What do you Think about Pacers & Raptors Deal? (Edited 06/26/08 01:03PM by UltimateSureno)
On Wednesday, Pacers agreed to trade six time all-star Jermain O'Neal to Toronto Raptors for PG T.J. Ford, C Rasho Nesterovic & Toronto Pick (17th Pick Overall in the 1st Round). So I want to know who you guys think got the better of the deal?

In my opinion Jermain O'Neal could be in the top 5 basketball players for one year !

Jermaine could have a solid year, but he was crippling the Pacers' payroll to the tune of $22mil  a year, and TJ Ford is a good PG, so that lets the Pacers "take out the trash" called Jamaal Tinsley.

Ford has some injury concerns, but Ford's contract is insured, so if he is truly "one hit away" from leaving the game, he becomes a 1-year expiring deal at worst case.

It also gives the Pacers a 1-year rental on a center who will expire next season, saving the P's about 8mil after that, then reunites the Pacers with Maceo Baston, who was well liked when he played here 2 years ago, and gives the #17 pick to the Pacers.

Toronto also gets the #41 pick in this draft from Indiana.

Oh yeah, I was all over this on RealGM.com when I got wind of it going down....

I like it. It was obvious Jermaine didn't want to play for the Pacers anymore. He played his heart out for the Pacers, so I'm happy for him. Getting Ford is nice, Tinsley can't play more than 40 games per season without getting hurt. The Pacers are in serious rebuilding mode, and this move will help, but it will be a couple year until the Pacers are competitive again. I guess the Pacers get Hibbert also, not bad. Well I guess we get Jack, and Rush also, and lose Bayless, and Diogu. I should have waited until after the draft to post LOL!

I think O'Neal is the best overall player in the deal, but as we've already heard, he's grossly overpaid. The Pacers needed someone to replace Tinsley, and they got him... Rasho's expiring (soon) contract will be good for the Raptors to free up cap space next year.

+1 thumbs upgotta like this deal all around.  if oneal stays healthy, toronto knows who their starting guard, power forward, and center are.  indiana gets rid of a crazy contract, gets a solid point guard, and takes one more step away from that crazy night at the palace.

After the whole fiasco where Stern wussed out on banning Detroit fans from home games (and since there was a bomb threat the next time the Pacers were in town, it's pretty obvious it was needed) and Bird started listening to that one worthless hack from the Star (his name escapes me), I've lost all faith in the Pacers actually making a solid trade.
