Remember the Titans was a true story of kids growing into men! A very moving movie. Also The Legend a Bagger Vance was an excellent movie with meaning.

Being from Philly, my vote goes to "Invincible".

What, no "Brian's Song"?  No other movie brings a man to tears as often as that!

Field Of Dreams is my fave on this list, but on my overall list it falls behind Bull Durham and Miracle.   Hoosiers and Caddyshack round out my top five.

I have always been partial to Bull Durham.  If you consider Raging Bull a sports movie, it needs to be mentioned as well.  And you can throw The Natural on the list as well.  Field of Dreams is probably the best on this list, but that movie isn't really about sports at all...

and I forgot an underrated gem: North Dallas Forty.

Glad you mentioned that about Field of Dreams.  I felt I was alone in that.  It was not a baseball movie.  There was baseball in it, but that's about it.

Actually, Brian's Song is my all time favorite, it was a true story and very poignant, about two players who were friends on and off the field and till the end. It still makes me cry. But since it wasn't on the list, I picked Rudy. Now that is a movie about a young man with a burning desire and didn't know the word quit. It was also a true story, talk about another tear jerker....not only did his dream come true, but he got to make a play in the last game of the season. Those are the kind of movies I like. All the ones on your list were good movies, but Rudy is my favorite too. I also liked the Bucket List.  There are a lot of good sports movies, it's kind of hard to not to like them all.

how can this be asked with out having Brian's song or the Natural in the list? Only reason I chose Rudy is it is the closest to Brian's song on here.

As much as I love Costner you guys are all right, Field of Dreams was not really a sports movie. I actually loved Million Dollar Baby myself, thought that should be on the list.

The Replacements & For the Love of the Game!  They should be on the list too.  Actually it is toss up between Remember the Titans, and Hooisers and I chose Titans because it is based on true facts from my home state of Virginia. I also love Hoosiers because it depicts so accurately rural farm life and the rabid support that the town had for the team and it is a classic David vs Goliath story. For the Love of the Game is an excellent movie with a heck of a ending.

Too hard to choose! They're all great movies in their own way. It depends on if you're in the mood for comedy or drama. I also picked Field of Dreams. I don't agree that it's not about baseball. Baseball is central to the story. It's not about a game or particular player, true, but it speaks to baseball's sentimental attraction, some intangible quality it possesses that isn't evoked in quite the same way by any other sport. It and A League of Their Own can make me tear up at the end, and that's not easy to do. And to phillysportchik I must say: What about Rocky?

I think the core of the story is Ray and his father.  Baseball was simply something they both shared and it connected the two.  Unlike The Natural, where the core of the emotion and the story was the game of baseball, baseball was not the core element of Field of Dreams.  It was more of a tool used as a means for an end.

The only thing that gets me choked up a bit in A League of Their Own (an underrated baseball movie, btw) is the scene where Betty gets the telegram in the pre-game locker room.

I'd agree with that-- that the core theme is the relationship between father and son. But when I think of Field of Dreams, I just always hear James Earl Jones' voice speaking "It's always been baseball"... Someone also mentioned The Pride of the Yankees. It's not the best movie overall-- it looks and sounds pretty dated now-- but Gary Cooper's portrayal of Gehrig was so dead-on that I always remember it. I could have actually been a Yankees fan on that day at least.

It's so hard to choose, it really is.

For me, choosing between Major League, Rudy, Rocky, Hoosiers, A League of their Own, The Natural, is almost impossible. Though out of all of them, I have probably watched Major League the most.

I would have to flip a coin between Rudy, Hoosiers, and The Natural...    Guess those would be my top three based on sport (football, basketball, and baseball)...

Wow, how could I miss Rocky and Raging Bull....oh, and The Air Up There!!  Also surprised that no one chosen Matt LeBlanc's blockbuster Ed....yeah, that's sad that I know that movie exists.

When I was a kid, I spent hours out in the back yard daydreaming about hitting a game winning home run.  When I saw "The Natural" it felt as if someone had gone into my head and put what I was thinking right on the screen.  Therefore, "The Natural" will always be the best sports movie for me.
