What would be your lineup?
Ok so let's say you are the manager of the greatest team of all-time(including a DH). What would be your lineup?
Arguably the players' in the following list may not be who you might think is the greatest at their position but for arguments sake let's just go with this list. Rank them on where you would hit them in the lineup.

+1 thumbs upMatthews and Schmidt would give the offense more power, but you cant argue with Robinson's glove.Arguably the best glove of all time.

You have a point,  it would have been a tough choice if there had been one.

+1 thumbs upNo Mantle? No DiMaggio? and sorry cubs fans, but i would take ripken in a heartbeat over banks, besides no one would want to play 2 against these guys. as far as brooks robinson, craig nettles had just as good a glove, but i would take alex rodriguez, i know i'm a little biased, but at a very young age he is rocketing up the charts.  how about a pitcher? guess it doesn't matter who pitches, they'll get plenty of run support.

i agree, schmidt would have been at third. how about the startin' rotation and the pen?  gibson, koufax, carlton, maybe pedro in his prime, palmer or seaver?.  rivera and eck in the pen  did i just open a can of worms?

+2 thumbs upYou had me until you brought up A-Rod.  You just can not compare the modern day players with the older players.  The improvement in equipement, training, fields, and ball just to name a few makes it like comparing apples and oranges. Yes, A-Rod has some talent but put him back in the old days and I wonder if he would even be a blimp on the radar.

You could have, but what team would be complete without a pitcher of course you could use Ruth he was an OK pitcher.  I might have to choose Bob Feller, Whitey Ford or maybe Warren Spahn.

That being said, I wonder if guys like Babe Ruth would be a blip on the radar today, considering how out of  shape he was, and how badly he treated his body. Sure, he could hit, but the pitchers weren't anywhere near as good as they are today.

the truth is you can't really compare players from different era by stats, too many variables.  like him or not A-rod is generally considered the best player in this era, he has the best chance of not only catching bonds but crushing that record, if he stays healthy that is.  And just one note, Babe Ruth would have been a hall of fame pitcher had he continued in that profession, thank god he didn't.

You could be right about Ruth but I think most of the other ones would.  Especially if they have all of the advantages of today.

+1 thumbs upBrooks definitely wouldn't be on this team if I were picking it, but this is a fun exercise in lineup creation.

The only spots I was sure on were Ted Williams (best overall hitter at #3), and Babe Ruth (power hitter at clean-up).  It didn't hurt to have Aaron protecting Ruth though.
