Tiger.  Not only winning on a bad knee, but calling it quits and virtually putting an end to meaningful golf for the year.

+4 thumbs up It should be the NBA ref spilling all the info about what's really going on, but since ESPN has the NBA contract and controls the sports news, we don't get to hear anything about it.

+2 thumbs upYeah....that is a big story....its the reason why the NFL instituted instant replay..fans, coaches and owners were sick of bogus calls.

+3 thumbs upHard to pick, but Tiger being out for the rest of the season is probaby the biggest, but Brett Favre retiring (or not) the NBA ref story, Scott Kalitta dying in a horific crash, Dale Jr winning at MIS, and the Wings winning the cup are all big to me.
Tiger Woods

+5 thumbs upJosh Hamilton has to rank way up there. The guy has been to hell, partied with the Devil, and is now performing at the highest level. From where he has been to where he is now, All-Star game etc., has got to be the feel good story so far in 2008.

+3 thumbs up Well The New York Giants beating New England at the end of the Super Bowl is a great story to start off the year. In Nascar Kyle Busch dominating the circuit is a big story, Nadal beating Federer in The French Open & Wimbledon is huge, and now in baseball The All-Star Game & Josh Hamilton, and then of course...THE CHICAGO CUBBIES  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+4 thumbs upGot to go with the Giants.  They were huge underdogs going into the Super Bowl and everyone thought they were just going to be another victim for the Patriots on there way to immortality.  Instead David jumped up and knocked out Goliath and scored one of the bigger upsets in Super Bowl history
