But you believe there was an Adam.

+3 thumbs upSure, why not!! I also believe that most of the people existed in the Bible including Jesus- just not in the "fairy tale" sense that most believe in. I believe that they were all mortal men and women and just lived their lifes as we do. No mumbo-jumbo, hocus- pocus, Son of God(because IMO there is no God), Born of a virgin, turning water into wine, and parting the Red Sea kind of stuff. Just average, everyday human beings doing what they do.

+2 thumbs upI would agree with this entire statement except for the No god part. I believe it's a book of fables that teach good principles to live by.

They were all mortals, even Jesus.  I don't think they were just average or we wouldn't even be discussing them, they would be lost in History as all others who didn't take a stand for what they believe or didn't just go along doing what they do were lost to the annals of History.  The reason the stories were told and handed down, the accounts were written and passed on is because they did extraordinary things.   Because they sacrificed their personal lives for what they believed was a much greater cause. Whether you believe that the Red Sea actually parted, Jesus was immaculately conceived or whether he turned water into wine isn't as important as the basic truth that these people existed, they lived their lives with a purpose other than themselves and they gave the accolades to a Higher Power (and no matter what people call a Higher Power or  Supreme Being...it all means God, just another name for Him and another believe system but it's STILL belief) and they and their acts, embellished, inspired by God or the actual Truth, were remembered and still discussed and debated today.  I think that lifts them above just average everyday human beings doing what they do.  I think that makes them extraordinary and special and worth remembering and wondering why they did what they did in a time that the acts could cost them their lives.  To believe in their existence is the first step to believing in the acts for which they were remembered for how else would you ever know they existed.

I dont believe in a higher power nor do I believe that these people HAD any special powers. They were great people in my opinion and I never doubted their existance, but so was Martin Luther King Jr., Ghandi, JFK, and many others before and after them. Jesus, prefered to hang out with the dregs of society because HE believed that they deserved the same treatment as the rich and wealthy and thats a great message to pass down. But hardly a message from some Supreme Being- just a great standard to live by. BTW the other people that I listed were not "lost in the annels of history" either and did stand up for what they believed in and DID sacrifice their lives for a much greater cause as have others in History. Does that make them "Almighty powers" as well???

I never said they were almighty powers...I just disagreed with the part of your comment that said they were " Just average, everyday human beings doing what they do"...I believe, along with the people you listed, they were anything but average.  And just pointed out that you believe in their existance where the only thing you have to base it on for some of them (i.e. Adam, Jesus, Mary) is the Bible.

I never doubted the existance of the Bible, I just dont believe all the hype and sensational things that happened in it nor do I believe that Adam and Eve were the first humans on Earth either. you have to realize that these were pretty primative men and a pretty primative society that they lived in with no sense on exactly how big the Earth really was. to them, their "World" could have been the size of a small tropic island in the middle of nowhere.  Peace to you as well
