+1 thumbs upDon't really know, but I can tell you that I wouldn't mind the Kings going after Bouwmeester.

Mara has just re-signed with the Rangers- 1 year $1.9M (took a pay cut to stay in NY)

J Bo will probably re-sign with the Panthers as they freed up some cap space by trading away Jokinen

Don't be surprised to see Jay Bouwmeester a member of the Ottawa Senators in the next 24 hours as according to a rumor out there the Sens and Panthers have a deal in place.

+1 thumbs upTampa's new ownership needs to get their collective asses in gear, especially the way they treated Boyle. The Sharks got two winners from Tampa, and Robb Blake to boot. Bret Hedican would be a good pick up, I hope they get a good puck moving D-man, that is almost a must for an elite team to have as the NHL "Special Teams" have never been so important as the past few years

+1 thumbs upYes, they got Rob Blake, but at 5 million when they have yet to sign Ehrhoff (sp?) and Clowe. By the way Rob Blake isn't the player he use to be-------don't get me wrong he can still bring it, but 5 mill is a bit too steep.

doesnt matter who they sign or acquire.  No one fears the 'Ning anymore!  Lets see them get back to the playoffs first.

+1 thumbs upUh, last year was the first year they missed the playoffs in six seasons. Bob, have you been without media access for the last week or so? They've acquired just a coupla (sarcasm) decent players to go with maybe the best (LeCavalier), they'll easily make the playoffs this year. Remember, they play in the SouthEast

Yea but Washington will be better- it will be a horse-race between the Caps and Lightning

NYR, One question about the Caps, exactly who will be their goaltender? I'm not sure about Jose Theodore

As long as Theorore is decent, which I believe he will be, the Caps have a shot with their dynamic young offense (AO, Semin, Backstrom), veteran leadership (Clark, Nylander, Brashear), and a very good young defenseman in Mike Green, they will be a strong team. They also have some cap space left so let's see if they do anything else.

They are certainly not a cup-contending team, but they have a solid shot at the SE, pending the play of Tampa

They missed the playoffs in a bad Eastern Conference.  That s says a lot more than you realize!

Just because they add a few players, they lost some great players.   First Brad Richards ast season at the deadline and now they traded Dan Boyle too?   YEAHHHHH  fear the "ning"........LMAO

The only top notch defensemen on this list is Bouwmeester and I am not sure how they could get him.

How can the Eastern Conference be bad? That must be your opinion, as the teams only play 10 inter-conference games the whole schedule. Hardly enough games to determine which conference is significantly better.

+2 thumbs upGosh, I can't believe I am siding with a Wings fan, but I have to agree with him on this one. The Kings, were 29th; however, that didn't stop them from having a pretty good record against the eastern conference.

I am a little weary of all the new players TB has signed. I am not jumping on the "Look what TB has done in the off season bandwagon". Now, this could be due to the fact my Kings made a lot of signings last off season and , well we all know what happened there.

+1 thumbs upBecks, I'm with you to a point. I think the reason I'm not sold on all the signings is the Lightning have never done this before: hence, I don't know what to think.
But then again, when a team signs Mark Recchi as an afterthought, well my God you can't help but think those 22 guys are going to be able to compete with anyone in the league.

Yes, the Eastern Conference is weaker, and the SE division is the weakest in the NHL. However I think the Bolts will come out on top in that division, but they are weak on defense, and they don't have a great goaltender to bail them out
