Who do you think is the best NHL announcer today?
I was reading another fan site and they had this question posted, and I thought to myself---I wonder what NHL fans of Faniq would say. So, here you go.

As a Kings fan, I am very lucky to have Hall of Famer Bob Miller call the games for my beloved Kings. I am sure you all have a favorite as well. Who is it, and why??I apologize to only having these names listed.

+2 thumbs up

Bob Miller kicks ass!

I am getting old since I still remember the day when it was Bob doing play by play and Nick Nixon was doing color. I like Barney Rubble in the booth, but I do miss those two. I will say Nick has made himself into a respectable radio play-by play guy over the years.

+1 thumbs upI also miss ol Nick Nixon. I like BoB Miller, but am indifferent towards him. My favorite it Gary Thorne. I love it how he gets into the game especially in the playoffs and when then game goes to OT. My favorite of all time is Tom Mees.

+2 thumbs upi LOVE Bob Miller and Barney ---I mean Jim Fox, that being said-----------I actually prefer listening to the Nick Nixon on the radio, and Daryl Evans isn't bad at commentating either! Recently FSN played some classic Kings game and both had me and my nephew so into it that we were cheering as if it was happening live.

You of all people would have to agree with me on this one----the Ducks announcers are TERRIBLE!

+1 thumbs upTom Mees of ESPN was my favorite before he tragically died, and I remember listening to Jiggs McDonald on the radio and he was great.. Gary Thorne is good too
Mike Emrick (Devils)

I'm Going to homer and go with John Forslund.  Does Carolina games, but also does VS. games.  Very Knowledgable about all aspects of hockey, can do it by himself if need be, and is a great guy.

+1 thumbs upI haven't really heard any of the other announcers besides Mike Emrick, but Sam Rosen truly is one of the best announcers I have heard. He has a great announcing voice, he is fluent, he knows the game very well, knows just about every player/coach/GM  in the league and details about them, he can point out the little things that people might miss, he covers everything important and quickly analyzes events (like special teams' play and zone dominance), he gets excited at the right times, and most importantly he is not biased. A little bit of a homer yes, but you aren't a good announcer for your team if you aren't a little homer. Also he does college football and occasionaly NFL games or others and he is good at those.

Doc Emerick isn't bad, if you can ignore the constant voice cracks and wierd anectodes he is always coming up with. Also Gary Thorne needs to do national broadcasts...
Sam Rosen (Rangers)

I love Doc Emerick of the current crop, but my favorite of all-time was Marv Albert, even though I'm not a Rangers fan. And Gary Thorne needs to be shot before he does another national broadcasts.

+1 thumbs upI love you for putting Mike Lange on here, Becky!  If you've ever seen the movie Sudden Death, he's the announcer along with Paul Steigerwald, who is now the head announcer for the Pens on TV.  At the time, he was Lange's color man.  He's been the announcer for the Penguins for over 30 years, and he's like no other.  His play-by-play calling is awesome, and he's one of the most enthusiastic announcers I've ever heard.  He is also quick to give props to the other team, and does not show bias toward the Pens.  But what he's most famous for, and the reason I picked him, is his quirky sayings.  Here's just a few of them for those who don't know of Mike Lange...

That's right, they're called Langeisms, more unique catch phrases by an announcer than anyone I can recall in the history of broadcasting sports.  One that is not on here though is from the first round of the 2008 playoffs when (I believe) Jarko Ruutu scored a goal against Ottawa.  Lange's quirk: "Martin Gerber just lost his liquor license!"

Yep, that's him!  Check out the link from Wikipedia, I think it's "cry or wind up his watch."

Emrick's enthusiasm is contagious. Was Jenerette with the Sabres at one time?
