Who should spearhead the Pittsburgh Steelers Running Game

As of week 5, Rashard Mendenhall has seized on his opportunity to start in place of an injured RB, Willie Parker.

This after he was literally benched for the entire game in Week 3 for his lackadaisical play and the next week he started his first game of the season in week 4.

So when Willile Parker is healthy again, should Willie receive his starting RB position back? Is the current Mendenhall, the real Rashard, or is the one who seemed soft and got benched, the real Rashard.

Select who YOU would start if you were Mike Tomlin and then make your case.

Willie does too much bouncing around in the backfield b4 he finds a hole. he doesn't hit it as hard as he used to. he seems very indecisive. Rashard seems to want the job more. he has been hitting the holes and finding ways to make something happen. i don't think either back is goin to be too successful right away, with the new style offense that Tomlin likes to run. Willie isn't built for this offense. i think in time Rashard will do well, but not right outta the gate. just b/c Willie was a part of 2 Super Bowl teams does not make him a #1 back, he fit well at the time.

I just wonder whether we should hand Rashard the keys to the Lombardi's because he has had success against 2 weak running defenses. I hope he is the future, but I am not convinced yet. Everyone does better right after getting a whoopin' from their mama.

Fast Willie appears to be not-so-fast anymore, but Fast Willie should be given a chance to show something against a regular schedule again.

Willie Parker is inconsistent even when healthy. Right now Mendenhall seems to be on a hot streak, plus they will be playing in Cleveland this week. Give Rashard the job unless and until Willie gets his legs back.

If you draft a running back in the first round, you have to use him. It would be different if he was a 3/4/5 round guy. The last 10 years the front office has got the first round right (last bust really was Troy Edwards in 99) They must have seen something to use the 1st round pick on a back. Young guys need to get their head right sometimes, and maybe he has figured it out. Cleveland (ranked last in the league giving up 170 yds/gm) should be another good game for him. The real test is may be Minnesota (Ranked 10th giving up 90yds/gm) but after 3 confidence builders who knows. Just like teams players can gain momemtum. Willie is always too dinged up to produce. Let him get healthy and he can be the change of pace back we need. Moore can continue to be the passing down back.

We need a bruiser in games that are close to run the clock out and Willie has never been that guy . I like Mendenhall and Moore as the running backs Wille seems to have lost  a step already .

Mendenhall provides more of a threat in all phases.  He's shown he can pass block, run routes, and catch passes as well as tote the rock, ground and pound, and turn on the jets.

Parker is great, but doesn't provide all the versatility.  He'd be great as a change of pace/2nd half burner (when the opposing D is beaten & tired).

I have to go with Mendenhall. Tomlin challenged him a few weeks ago and he seems to have responded. In todays NFL you really need two quality RB's. Willie will be needed. I would rather him get healthy first.

Hopefully Mendenhall can continue to be good . I like Moore and thinks he's got some fight in him too.

I would like to see Moore start because Mendenhall still doesn't protect the ball as well as he should, which can cost us a game.

No question it Mendenhall. Willie wil not run inside the tackles any more, everything is outside which runs him right into where the line is blocking. Mendenhall is a Steeler runner the likes of the bus, hit the hole THEN bounce it outside with more speed than the bus had. He makes Ben and the pasing game more dangerous as well.

If Mendenhall is the future, we need to see.  If he isn't we need to know too.  One thing is for sure, neither Parker nor Moore have much gas left in the tank for future years,

After viewing last night's game against the Broncos and several games this year, I am convinced it's Mendenhall.  He hits the hole harder than most running backs that play the game today.  Although my sentiments thank Parker for all he has done for us the past few years (including the both Super Bowl years), I would be hard-pressed to sit Rashard down right now.

How about Ray Maulaluga?  He's be spearheading some Stealers running backs tomorrow.
