Who will have more Super Bowl rings? (Edited 11/19/08 01:48PM by mooser58)

Terry Bradshaw is one of the all time great NFL quarterbacks and some consider him the greatest Steeler ever.  With four Super Bowl wins is is hard to argue.  But Ben Roethlisberger has already won one Super Bowl and has plenty of time left in his career to win more.  In the end, who will be seen as the better QB and who will be seen as the more popular Steeler?

No offense, but this question is downright ridiculous. Every single part of it.

"Terry Bradshaw is one of the all time great NFL quarterbacks..."
False. He's not even close. Look at the numbers. He was a mediocre QB surrounded by amazing talent. He was the Trent Dilfer of his time, except the Steelers never had the guts to cut him.

"...and some consider him the greatest Steeler ever."
Maybe some do, but they're wrong. Never, at any point, was Bradshaw even the greatest player ON THE FIELD. Franco Harris, Lynn Swann (and I think Lynn Swann is overrated), John Fugua, John Stallworth, Rocky Bleier and Jim Smith were all better than Bradshaw when they played together. I didn't even mention the defense, which is where the REAL talent was, outside of Harris.

"With four Super Bowl wins is is hard to argue."
No, it's VERY easy to argue. Super Bowls are a team stat. Bradshaw didn't lead any of those teams to the Super Bowl, Franco Harris and the Steel Curtain did. With only 2 more career touchdowns than interceptions, Bradshaw just went along for the ride. Much like Roethlisberger did when the Steelers won their last one... but I'm sure I'll get into that later. But just for some perspective, consider this: In every full season in which he has played, Tom Brady has thrown AT LEAST 6 more TD's than INT's. Brady's career TD-INT ratio is 197-86. Peyton Manning's is 306-153. Bradshaw's is 212-210. Different era or not, it doesn't matter. That is NOT elite, and it's NOT indicative of one of the best QB's of all time. That's simply ridiculous to even consider.

"But Ben Roethlisberger has already won one Super Bowl and has plenty of time left in his career to win more."
Factually speaking, there's nothing wrong with this statement. But if you look at Big Ben's mediocrity in his FIRST Super Bowl appearance (9-21, 123 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT, 22.6 QB rating), the ridiculous circumstances that it took to get there, and the fact that the Patriots, Colts and Chargers have the AFC on lockdown for years to come, Roethlisberger really doesn't have a realistic shot of winning many more, if any at all.

"In the end, who will be seen as the better QB and who will be seen as the more popular Steeler?"
Better QB: Roethlisberger, already. Which isn't saying much, because Big Ben isn't even that good. But Bradshaw was average, and Roethlisberger is slightly better than average, so he wins out. More popular Steeler? Probably will always be Bradshaw, since he simply won more rings. Whether or not he had anything to do with it doesn't matter. He played on the same field as Franco Harris, so he gets all the glory.

And to answer the question, no, Ben Roethlisberger will NEVER come close to Bradshaw's bling total. But it won't be because he's not as good. The league is just too tough right now, the Steelers just aren't good enough, and it's just not realistic.
+8 thumbs upWow, I'm impressed Pat- you actually waited all the way until the 3rd paragraph before you broke out your Tom Brady "Man Crush"!!!  I thought for sure the comparison would come much earlier for you.  GOT FIVE??? THE STEELERS DO!!!

+6 thumbs upIs this really a question?  Who in their right mind thinks that Big Ben has a chance in hell to get 4 more rings?  He'll be lucky to get 1 more and have half the rings of Terry.

+3 thumbs upRoethlisberger was lucky to get dragged along for the ride and get his first ring.  He won't get any more.

+3 thumbs upWay too much parity in the NFL now. It will be tough for him to get 3 more rings.

+5 thumbs upBen won't get 1 more let alone 3, but then again you never know, Bradshaw wasn't that good and he got 4.

+3 thumbs upConsidering that there is now a salary cap in the NFL, it's REALLY hard for any NFL QB to get to the Superbowl 4 times- much less win them in a 10-14 year career. Ben will be a good one for years to come- but keeping a team together for that long anymore is virtually impossible.

+3 thumbs upHow is this anti-Ben? Most of the post here have been logical and far from anti-anything. Its based on the fact only 5 qb's to ever play in 4 Super Bowls or more (Staubach, Bradshaw, Montana, Elway, and Brady) its not a great leap to think ben wont see 3 more. Take off your steeler glasses and look how tough it is to even get to ONE Super Bowl. Just look at Peyton Manning as great as he is he has been to as many as Ben
