Simply put, Nadal's fitness was not there and I think he would have pushed it to 5 sets. I think Federer would have eventually won due to his fitness being much better this year. Nadal plays each point and each match like it is his last, this is not the best way to play and he is paying for it now. Federer simply is a shot maker and knows when he cannot chase down shots unlike Nadal, who refuses to give in. Nadal's tenacity is why we love him, but is also why he may not last very long if he keeps playing the way he does. Enter the poll to see my answer

I believe we saw the pressure of the number 1 spot on Nadal in Madrid on clay against Federer where Federer was able to beat him and Nadal played a bit, IMHO, like he felt pressure. I think that win would've helped Federer mentally playing Nadal again and I think it would've went 5 sets, with Federer sneaking it out.
