Why is Boxing continuing to go down hill?
I remember when Mike Tyson used to fight and before him you had all of the great fighters of old, like Ali, and Frazier. Boxing was just such a big deal. What do you think the problem is with boxing today?

+4 thumbs upUFC is more popular and quite frankly more entertaining. There is no longer an undisputed champion, boxing lacks the name recognition of old and the fights and scoring has become ridiculously controversial. Couple that with any fight worth seeing is going to cost you and viola...boxing is on the decline.

All fights of interest are on pay-per-view.

To sum it up, that is exactly the kind of answer that I was looking for when I created this poll.

Really though, I dont think they have enough big fights on pay-per-view. For example, the UFC always has things lead up to their big pay-per-views. Those fights are expensive, but you pay the price because they (Dana White) does such a good job hyping up each pay-per-view fight.

I agree as well. But i don't think the final nail is in the coffin by any stretch of the imagination. Because the UFC is not as clean as boxing, there will always be a place for boxing, not everyone is thrilled with the UFC. I like it but not better than boxing. What boxing needs is to return to it's roots (title wise). First and foremst the Heavyweiht division needs to have 1 champion. To me the best way to do it is to recognize the linear champion as the true champion and allow the other alhabet champs to enter a tournament to determine the #1 contender. They woild be forced to put their titles on the line in order to enter the tournament. Upon completeion. The #1 contender and the recgnized linear champion would then fight for the undisputed title. Whosoever won that fight would not only be recognized as the linear champ but the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. That in itself would get the sport of boxing back on the right track. After the heavyweight Championship had been determined I would then clean up all these excess divisions. I would only allow 1 division every 15 pounds or so. I would do away with the Cruiserweght division, as well as the super middleweight division, super welterweight, junior middleweight, you get the drift. That's one advantage UFC holds over Boxing that nonone in boxing has recognized. There is one heavyweight championship and if you want it you have one man to fight. That's part of the excitment in UFC. That's the one thing Boxing can change to compete. The style of fighting in the UFC is so different that there is nothing boxing can do to try and compete and to be completely honest it shouldn't. The UFC has created it's own niche and it's own fan base that are not all from boxing which is why it will be a mainstay in our sporting society. And though we call it fighting it is more like well organized combat.

"Because the UFC is not as clean as boxing..."

I was curious as to what you mean by this?

What I mean by not as "clean" is polished as a sport. UFC is grwoing by leaps and bounds but it is still very green in terms of it's maturity as a sport. Not the maturity of the particpants, I'm talking about the sport itself. The UFC will evolve, as all sports do, some rules will change, some will be removed and sme may be added, but any sposrt in it's first 20 years of existence is not going to be very clean or polished.

+1 thumbs upIf there was only one set of champions and the fights were carded in a fair, subjective manner rather than promoters making the fights based on the purse sizes and popularity, people would respect the science more....look at Tyson-guy is my favorite of all time but he's all washed up, but I guarantee he'd still be a bigger draw against a big-time champion if thy carded a fight today

If that were the case then boxing would make sense, only one set of champions would actually entertain us.

2007 is doing better than 2006... 2006 did better than 2005... hmm... yeah Boxing is going downhill huh?

Get real... look how the fall and winer looks for boxing right now. This is a biased poll. A bunch of MMA nuthuggers responded ot it. Not realibale whatsoever. If Boxing is dying and UFCis taking over tell me how over 20 million fans voted for Mayweather to win the "Fighter of the Year" ESPY award over Rampage and Couture?

Boxing is beating UFC in PPV revenue this year and its biggest fights are going to happen at the end of the year with Pac-man vs. MAB, Mosley vs. Cotto, Mayweather vs. Hatton. So much for a dead sport.
