+12 thumbs upI think the first sign that they are in trouble is bad grammar.  Technically, it's "Why our YOUTH is in trouble??"

I kid because I care...

***I had to edit this post because I spelled "trouble" wrong.  True story...hahaha.***

+11 thumbs upWell, for one we teach them that keeping score and losing don't happen in the real world.  Sure, kids need to be treated differently than adults, but losing can be the best learning experience.

+4 thumbs upi think it is because of what people classify as child abuse. if i was to do half, just half of what these kids do today, i would have gotten the crap beat out of me. i actually respected my parents and i was scared of the repercussions of making bad choices. also i bet some parents are scared their kids will come back and kill them, it doesn't happen often but ocassionally you here about that one wierd kid who could't take it  anymore and kills the family.

i really don't know, but it sounds like good reasons

+6 thumbs upThere was actually research done on the subject of criminals and childhood background by a college for the US GOVT. This stated that young adults, ages 23 through 29, that were "spanked" regularly for misdeeds when they were children behaved and payed attention to work, school, THEIR children etc., an average of 47 % BETTER than people who had not. they also did a study group of criminals of the same age also, the thing was they only used petty charges. The results were still that high.

+1 thumbs upi would never, never beat my child but he will be punished accordingly when he misbehaves i will not treat him any different than my parents treated me, and i did not recieve that many "spankings" they just got through to me at an early age, and i learned quick who to ask for what i wanted.

+10 thumbs upI think kids now have way too much leeway. Parent are to blame, end of story. When I was brought up, if I so much as not finished everything on my plate down to the last crumb, I was in trouble. I didn't get to pick and choose what I wanted to eat. I ate what was put in front of me. If I didn't eat that, I'd starve. I had to be in by a certain time and if I wanted to stay out, I had to check in with mom first. There were no cell phones, there were no pagers. I could call if I wanted to, but I had to check in. Now, (and I'm not saying all) a good portion of parents let their kids run wild. I can't believe how many kids I see talking back to their parents when I'm out. If I ever pulled some sort of crap like that when I younger, my mom would have slapped me half way across the store, and she would not have cared who saw it. (This was also in the early 80's when parents were allowed to do this sort of thing) I knew better to do something that would get me in trouble. I think parents need be able to whip some a** when necessary to keep their kids in line. Anyone who was from my era and before knows exactly what I'm talking about.

+5 thumbs upThere isn't any accountability anymore.  Kid gets in trouble, mom and dad go to school and bail them out rather than making them suffer the consequences of their actions.

+11 thumbs upI'm in the same boat as Anthony and Rachel.  When I was little in the late '80s and early '90s, I still got whacked if I misbehaved.  I remember one instance where I was being stupid, and got reprimanded for it big time.  There's 13 steps and thankfully they're carpeted.  I was at about the 3rd step from the top jumping around and lost my balance, tumbling down to the bottom and smacking my head off the door of the living room closet.  I started to cry.  My mom was making dinner, heard the crash, and came running in asking me what happened.  I told her what I was doing and she asked if I was okay.  Once she saw I was fine I got whacked for being an idiot.  With the way kids are today, if that was me spanking my kid (which I certainly deserved for my stupidity that day), I'd probably have CYS on my ass for child abuse.
