+10 thumbs upLol, what are the "Other" options for? In case the team gets completely obliterated from existence?

+1 thumbs upSo, Becks, you really aren't sold on all of these moves that the Bolts have made, huh?
Is Melrose gonna be that bad? Will the Capitals really be that good again? Or do you think maybe with all the $$ being thrown around they'll turn into a "country club" team? Or do you think that the blue line and goaltending will be that bad?
Because the Lightning team WILL score goals. That's one thing I guarantee will happen.

+2 thumbs upHere's the thing! I am actually doing your team a favor not thinking they will make the playoffs==often times I am wrong--which is why I am kind of glad the Kings were left off this poll. However, I just don't see them addressing the blue line or goaltending---and take it from me, as a fan who has waited years for solid goaltending and just went through a year of terrible "D", you can't get anywhere without it.-----------By the way do you remember the Penguins in Crosby's first year? They too, signed a bunch of free agents (Palffy was one of them) ---they didn't do to well. TB seemed to have a lot of holes to fill and they filled most of them with free agents. It takes time for players to gel together. Yet your team is playing in a pretty weak (at least it seems weak) division so who knows?

+1 thumbs upFair enough. Remember, in Tortorella's system it was press all the time, in which case you leave your goaltender vulnerable, often. Smith will be fine. And if he's not, Ramo will take his job.
From what I understand, Melrose will employ a more neutral style. I agree we need a Top Two defenseman.

Wow! Torts system sounds an awful lot like Crawford's system with the Kings last year. This being said I am surprised there are some (few) who would actually like him to coach the Kings.

By the way, who do you guys have on "D" this year? I was only familiar with Boyle.

Tortorella would be an unbelievable catch. He's the best American born coach EVER. (Sorry Herb Brooks)
His message had just become stale to the veterans who had heard his rantings for seven seasons.
Shane O'Brien
Paul Ranger
Filip Kuba
Alex Picard
Matt Carle
Mike Lundin
Andrew Hutchinson
Ty Wishart

They are young. I think they could be a workable lot. TB is front loaded, no doubt about it. Malone, LeCavalier, Jokinen, Ouellet are all good back checkers, though. Halpern is an incredible reliable two-way player, but will he play this season?
I'm a long suffering Buccaneers fan so we have an instilled pessimism when it comes to all sports. That being said I'm shocked so many people think the Lightning won't return to the playoffs. I'm not overly optimistic about much, and consider myself a sports realist. This team had ONE bad year after making the postseason for five straight. They traded Brad Richards but have gained three of four players that are nearly (or in some areas better) as good as he is.
While Mike Smith nor Karri Ramo have a proven track record in goal, the Bolts could always just put Olaf Kolzig there if they feel the need for just stabilizing the position. Kolzig at 38 can say he's had a solid if somewhat average career.

+1 thumbs upYou don't have to tell me about pessimism. My beloved team hasn't won anything in its 40 years of existence. Perhaps this is why I just can't get on the TB bandwagon just yet.

The Kings have a young "D" as well. Many say they will be incredible in a couple of years, and they have a pretty lethal offense (Kopitar, Brown, O'Sullivan--he will sign, Frolov, and a couple other young ones) already.

By the way, did I mention that the Kings are the ONLY NHL team not to have signed anyone this off season.

Hey, you're a season ticket holder. Go to that "town meeting" they hold for you guys and question the GM. I know you are not shy

I am actually OK with not signing UFAs. I am just getting impatient with the signing of our RFAs. I just made the comment because I find it funny.

+1 thumbs upI'm just thrilled the Panthers weren't on the list. Obviously this means it is a foregone conclusion that they are destined to make the playoffs.

I'm gonna feel so much better when the tequila wears off...
