Will sabbathia put the brewers over the top?
The times they are a changing... the brewers made the deal. They now have 2 aces, one right handed ( Sheets) and one left handed (CC)... throw in a young lefty (Parra) who has won 7 straight decisions and might be the best young lefty in NL... and suddenly the brewers rotation may be the best in the NL. Did the brewers give up too much? Will this trade spring the brewers into late October baseball? I say.... no... and yes...respectfully. If you know the brewers farm system you'd know laporta, though a great prospect... can only play LF marginally and may be a better RF and actually is a natural 1B/DH... with Braun and hart in the OF and brewers holding rights to Prince for at least 3 more seasons...he (laPorta) was a man without a position. And...if sabbthia signs elsewhere after the season... Brewers get 2 - 1st round picks and can find a power hitting OF/1b to replace laporta. What impact do you see this trade having on the balance of power in NL?

I think cubbies and brew crew will battle it out til last weekend of the season... both are tough at home...both have big bats and with sabbathia, evens out the overall pitching. Bullpens will tell the tale.

Sabathia is a great pickup and along with Sheets, they form a 1-2 punch that matches up nicely with Carlos Zambrano and Ryan Dempster.  That said, I think it'll be Manny Parra and Prince Fielder that will help put the Brewers over the top.  If Fielder can rediscover his stroke, he'll add another offensive weapon to a lineup that has Ryan Braun, JJ Hardy and Corey Hart.  If Parra can continue to be a consistent 3rd starter, I think its plausible that the Brewers could win the NL Central.  However, if I'm a Brewers fan, I'm still not comfortable with Solomon Torres as my closer.  He isnt the longterm solution in that role and right now, the bullpen is where the Cubs have an advantage.  I'd take Carlos Marmol, Neal Cotts and Kerry Wood anyday.

+2 thumbs up#1 and #2 in the rotation are even for the Cubs and Brewers, so push. Hands down will take the Cubs pen, Advantage Cubs. Everyone will jump on the Brewers offense but will forget that coming into games on 7-7-08 the Cubs have out scored the Brewers by 70 runs, advantage Cubs. Both teams are among leaders in come from behind wins, so push there. Since the Cubs starters era is overall better than the Brewers i will take the Cubs 3,4,5 starters, advantage Cubs. The Brewers are a better road team advantage Brewers and both are good home teams so push there. I am A Cubs fan so I will pick the Cubs to out last the Brewers by a few games making the final 4 games of the year Cubs vs Brewers VERY VERY fun to watch!

Brewers and Cubs play each other 10 more times... 7 of them at Miller park... advanatage brewers

Brewers bullpen has been erratic and everchanging, Cubs very solid... advantage Cubs

offensive lineup... looks close to a push...depending on who has big second half

Brewers now have 2 talented lefty starters that can dominate.... advanatge Brewers

Cubs have Lou Piniella and we got Ned.... advantage Cubs

looks like a fight to the finish to me!

i'd say the 3-4-5 is pretty even. Cubs era is a little lower but cubs also have had easier schedule and more home games which slants that a little. Parra-Bush- Suppan   vs  Lilly - marquis- gallagher... parra is probably the best of the bunch. Lilly is having an Ok season but benefiting from good run support. Suppan has been awful for brewers in last month. Bush started lousy, was in minors... but since then has had 4-5 quality starts in a row and a near no hitter. Suppan has always been at his best down the stretch and in post season... we will see if he still does. Lots of question marks on both teams. It is this motley group that will ultimately win or lose it in that overworked bullpens can kill you late in the season.
