Will the Packers QB inexpierience be their downfall? (Edited 08/26/08 01:34AM by ChristiSunshine)
The Packers have had a media storm around their starting QB. Finally they came to the decision of Aaron Rodgers. Their other 2 QB's are Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn. A problem that might be their downfall late in the season is their QB inexpierience. Before the pre-season started the 3 QB's combined had 0 NFL starts and 58 completions between them (all the completions were Aaron Rodgers). So late in the season or if they make the playoffs will this Inexperience hurt their chances?

+6 thumbs upTheir terrible offensive line performance is a MUCH bigger problem right now. It doesn't matter who's playing QB... if he has no time in the pocket, he will not succeed.

I think that overall team inexperience will come to haunt the Packers- not just the QB spot. Also the RB spot could be a problem. Sure Grant played great the last 9 games of the season, but how will he do when he has to carry the full load of a 16 game season with really no quality depth behind him??? Also, the Packers won quite a few games last season with some incredible (lucky?) plays at the end of games- can Rodgers make those plays??? Too many question marks........

To me, we have a lot of issues.  At running back it looks like we have a bunch of nice backups, but not one guy that can be a good consistent starter.  No, I do not believe in Ryan Grant.  At reciever we're doing just fine, and tight end is okay too, although I wish Donald Lee was a better blocker.  Our offensive line is a huge mess right now.  We keep moving our guys around, hoping they'll mesh or be comfortable in a different spot and nothing is working.  Our defense is okay, but how good it'll be depends on Atari Bigby.  At the end of the season he was playing out of his mind, and our defense went from above average to really good.  If he reverts to early 2007 Atari Bigby, our D won't be able to win games for us by themselves.  Of course, Rodgers will inevitably not be as good as Favre, but we got plenty of other issues too.

I have to agree with the other postings-it will be a team effort, and minimal effort at that, for the teams downfall. This, however is like saying "Is the Geriatric"ness" of Brett Farve going to be the downfall of the Jets? Better yet, why didn't he just hang them up while the gettin was good-then they could play there crappy season on someone else, better yet on themselves.

it is obvious to me that the answer to this question depoends on will Rodgers stay healthy, especially come november and december.  If Packers are contending and Rodgers is healthy at Thanksgiving, i expect Packers to finish strong and won't consider Rodgers inexperience an issue. But... the disaster would be if Rodgers went down late with packers in contention and we have to throw a rookie in there. Personally, I see some guys out there that could be acquired for a draft pick or who may be released before week 1.... JP Losman, either McCown brother, Chris Simms, beck from miami... I still expect packers to add a vet QB either after this week's game... or at worst by week 2. I'm kind of hoping for JP Losman or Beck. As long as it isn't Culpepper.

I'll disagree with Vin on RB depth. Packers have so much talent here we will probably go with 4 RB's and 2 FB's. Brandon jackson will be a valuable #2 and see quality touches. And the rookie Lumpkin from GA has a little "tD" in him. Morrency, herron, Wynn...all belong in NFL. Hate to disappoint you Dog, but packers have pelnty of depth at RB

What you just described is not alot of depth- it's alot of guys who aren't good enough to carry a full load. Sure- each one of those guys will receive handoffs- but none of them can carry the team if Grant goes down- hence- no depth!!!

We looked much much better last night.  I have no doubts that Rodgers is an NFL caliber QB, but it takes more than a QB to win games in the NFL.  Our line looked better too, which was the key to our massive improvement from last week.  I still think we have a whole depth chart full of #2 running backs, which is not the way to go.  Maybe after this year Thompson will realize that elite talent is better than average depth.

Give Brohm some time to work in the pocket and he will be a great qb as well.
