Hi everyone, and welcome to a new week.
I'm officially sick of the Phoenix weather we're having.  2 years ago, we didn't have one day over 100 degrees.  Today will be the 3rd in a row and I think 6th this month.  Ugh.  Golf on Saturday wasn't too bad, it was 103 at tee off, but the wind was blowing.  When it died on the back 9 and the ice keeping our beer cold melted? Things were heading south
Baseball in it yesterday wasn't too bad either.  Except the whole wearing polyester blend uniforms and wool hats thing.  Luckily, first pitch was at 9am and we were done by noon when it was only 100.
I don't know why people would ever voluntarily move to Arizona

Our entire state is seemingly up in flames right now too, which absolutely sucks.  The guys fighting those wildfires are machines
The High Park fire is the most destructive in terms of property damage in the state, and has burned 84 thousand acres.  The newest fire is the waldo canyon fire NW of Colorado Springs, threatening the Garden of the Gods and evacuating 11000 people so far.
Here are pics of the newest fire

DVD extras about the poll: Just found out 'six' in Spanish and Portuguese are the same. I didn't go Spanish twice. Also I went with the most common or widespread mandarin term for the number five. The Hindi was just a shout out to Ankur. I wanted to get creative with "Beans," but I'm pretty sure it's trademarked and it's style sheet precludes getting too jiggy with it. Sort of like the Nazi like rules of using the Olympic logo. Enjoy you day boners.

i got another email from god. apparently obama, the "true russian intelligence agent," is hard at work to sink the midwest starting with the underground nuclear explosions on the michigan/indiana border that happened june 6th. watch out chicago and great lakes. y'all are next:

"I tell you these important truths! For, soon, very soon, the poisonous gases will fill the skies and fires of all sorts will erupt all over this nation, fires and explosions, and a very great destabilization of the New Madrid Fault will take place.

And, you shall hear! Chicago is fallen! Chicago is fallen!  Chicago is fallen, and so great are the numbers of the dead!  For, Chicago is fallen and the city is broken, clean broken down! For, a very great earthquake will rip through Chicago!

Hear Me in this!  The plans of their great works are to rupture the Great Lakes! See their evil works! See what they do!  For, in this way, Chicago shall fall!

This is my favorite Filter Error title ever (sorry Ash. Love you. Happy Birthday.)

My bgff became a grandma last night. I'm wondering when this type of thing is going to start wigging me out. I was essentially her live-in nanny at one point...and this new baby belongs to the youngest. I'm not freaked out by it yet, but I suppose that will happen eventually.

Looks like the Q might be experiencing some minor hiccups today.

I hope Laurel is ok - I see her posting on Facebook, so that's good. I have friends and family from back home calling, texting, and posting on my FB wall asking if we're ok, and the storm isn't even really all that close to us. I am sick of the gloom though - I almost wonder if that's the cause of this funk. Ugh. I better get used to it though or I face a tough 3 years.

Hope everyone is well. I've gotta scat.

I'm fine.  We had a few tornado touch down nearby, but it is basically gusty and rainy.  Found a new leak in the carport.
Fortunately, it is right over the top of the washer, so if I leave the lid open, it collects it.yes

This may be the summer of no tan.   I'm so white, I am almost green.

Hola amigos y amigas,

So this is the week before my first week of vacation. I don't have anything planned, we were supposed to go camping but then everyone else in my family changed the date and now they are all going for a long weekend at the end of July. I have nothing to do so I may just be getting some sun and drinking all week.

Jess~ I will start that Reality Check article next week. I have nothing to do this week so I will be watching some stuff.

I hope that you all have a wonderful day, I gotta get some work done!

I kinda like the box office rundown / review mash-up, but you're right, we do need some more Movie/TV/Music articles in the locker room. I have been trying to come up with angle for some TV talk, the problem is show recaps suck (sorry Sepinwall & Goodman they just do) and I don't really watch any shows people would consider popular and would just turn into me ripping them. (Total douche move that everybody already does. I'm looking at you A.V. Club.)

I am "efforting" to get something cool with NBATV after talking to one of their on air personalities at an alum thing last week and hopefully when next season starts I'll have a real take/talk with some of them. They all - to a person - effing love talking sports and entertainment and don't really get a chance to opine on it since they are on a short leash time wise (NO TANGEANTS!!!) and need to focus on basketball only. But even this would be like a one shot deal or article.

The Bucs finished interleague play with a winning record, 10-8...I'm comin' Elizabeth!  This team is starting to make me believe, more so than last year.  Speaking of baseball, I am bringing back the pool party MLB live thread, started it yesterday.  I can't put the link up here now because I've timed it to not go up on Best of the Web until 6:00 ET tonight, so at that time or anytime thereafter, go to the Fan Articles tab and it should be there.  Join in, bring something good for the party, and have fun while I get to work late all week.

I just have one rule for the pool party...we don't swim in your toilet, so please don't pee in our pool!

F**king finally!

Random Thoughts....

1. Mini Movie Review by the Movie Snob: Shame.
It was good.  Fassbender was fantastic as always. Carey Mulligan was phenomenal as well.  It was good to see the guy from The Pacific too.  According to rumor...the scene when Mulligan is singing New York and Fassbender cries wasn't scripted.  That was his true reaction to her performance and they left it in the movie.  Also...ladies...Fassbender is packing.

2.  Its "roll over and die" hot here.  Stoney you are 100 times the man i am.  I would never tee off at that temperature.   I dont see how that sh** was even remotely fun.   This is "f**k you" jesus type weather.

3.  Happy Birthday Ashley!

Hope you all had a nice weekend!

The sacrifices I make for family....I tell ya! We had a family reunion for my mom's side of the family, on Saturday! My mom is the oldest child of 7 and grew up on the South Side of Chicago. 2 of her sisters moved to Wisconsin, 20 yrs ago. The rest of my aunts, uncles and their kids are in the southern suburbs or still in the old neighborhood. So, for the reunion we went to see the WSOX-BREWERS play at the Cell. Part of the family were Brewer fans and the other half were Sox fans.....I felt very isolated! (lol) The tailgating was the best part!

My friends were asking me who I was going to root for, since I'm a fan of the losers on the North Side.......I told them it really didn't matter so I was rooting for the BEER GUY!

Here is a picture of me (about 9 Beers later) and one of my cousins.

I want a list of the copied moves in question and try to guess what they are.
(Gonna test some COC limits here) For instance, I picture the "hot seat" being a move where the male genitalia is rubbed between the cheeks of a female patron as if he is starting a fire with the friction

Yes... kind of! There are names to parts of Chicago (Greektown, Lincoln Park, Rogers Park, Gold Coast, Ukrainian Village, Lincoln Square, etc, etc). Evanston, which is 1 block away from where I live (Rogers Park) is actually a suburb. O'Hare is considered Chicago but not sure what community name they fall under?

There are 77 Community names (boroughs - lol)  that make up the City of Chicago:

01 Rogers Park 21 Avondale 41 Hyde Park 61 New City
02 West Ridge 22 Logan Square 42 Woodlawn 62 West Elsdon
03 Uptown 23 Humboldt Park 43 South Shore 63 Gage Park
04 Lincoln Square 24 West Town 44 Chatham 64 Clearing
05 North Center 25 Austin 45 Avalon Park 65 West Lawn
06 Lake View 26 West Garfield Park 46 South Chicago 66 Chicago Lawn
07 Lincoln Park 27 East Garfield Park 47 Burnside 67 West Englewood
08 Near North Side 28 Near West Side 48 Calumet Heights 68 Englewood
09 Edison Park 29 North Lawndale 49 Roseland 69 Greater Grand Crossing
10 Norwood Park 30 South Lawndale 50 Pullman 70 Ashburn
11 Jefferson Park 31 Lower West Side 51 South Deering 71 Auburn Gresham
12 Forest Glen 32 Loop 52 East Side 72 Beverly

16 Irving Park 36 Oakland 56 Garfield Ridge 76 O'Hare

Brilliant!! I gotta find the list of the moves and make a poll... Hmmmm, hot seat? I would have guessed an inverted -reverse- reverse cowboy on a chair with the male stripper straddling the patron somehow that is unique and provocative.

If it weren't for Jess' warning, I totally would.  I was a single gal-about-town at some point.

Good day, bitches.

I saw Avatar, finally.  Yeah, if Rogs were here, I'd give him a good-natured ribbing about how much it sucked, but he's not, so whatever.  Needless to say, overrated.  Like, a lot.

That's really all I've got.  Maybe I'll post some pictures of my new deck plants at some point soon.  They weren't in the best shape when I got them.  I'm reviving them, all green-thumbed out, motherf**kers!

Oh, one more thing ... do we still do the Bookclub?  I haven't participated in awhile, but I just randomly thought of it today since my work bookclub has kind of disbanded.  indecision  Has the Q chapter (ha!  chapter) also fizzled out?

We're still doing it - this month's is BZRK (I believe - I purchased it and have started reading, so I hope so)...last month's was Three Men in a Boat.

I think it might be kind of fun to turn these into articles - not necessarily the vote of course but maybe a collaborative review at the end of each month after those of us who are reading them have finished so everyone can participate in chatting about it.

When you spend half the day on the phone with the contracted IT people, it's not a good day, especially when it was because Microsoft Word wouldn't play nice with our audit software.

Exam update: 8 days to go, doing review. The good news is I feel like I know most of the this stuff. The bad news is what I don't know (again, manufacturing overhead variance), I really don't know. Plus, I don't know yet if any of the IT stuff stuck.

Watching the Olympic trials this weekend got me excited for the Games to start. Now, if anyone's actually reading this, they're probably thinking, "But Eric, you're a cynical jerk about everything, and the Olympics have a lot screwed up about them. How could *you* be excited?" Well, for my own sanity, I choose to primarily see the Olympics as a three week sports extravaganza. Thus, the screwed up parts aren't as high on my radar. Admittedly, it's a conscious choice.

I actually don't think any of us here even think about how much is screwed up about the Olympics...we just like to watch, and they don't come around often enough or long enough for most of us (unless I'm mistaken, and I'm the only one with my head in the sand) to really notice or think about what's messed up about them like we do with the pro sports leagues.

Today has been a Monday from start until, well, about 2 hours ago.  Here's hoping for a good night's sleep tonight.  After the past two nights, I need it.

Jess, I love the "I seen..." you got from pinterest.  I think we all know that is one of my biggest grammatical pet peeves!

Evanston, which is 1 block away from where I live (Rogers Park) is actually a suburb. O'Hare is considered Chicago but not sure what community name they fall under?

Hospital folks dont like me much here, I dont know why not. I say please & thank you . I shower in the morning. When I ask if you are ladling the same crap onto my plate as the patients, I expect a simple yes or no, not roll eyetude. Do you wonder why so many subways have popped up next to said healing houses, uh, its cause your food Sucks! Your Welcome! Its, kinda depressing here, but, knowing alcohol awaits me, makes things better. Sunshine & Lipstick PEACE
