what is your opinion about religion being brought up in polls that have nothing to do with religion

i have noticed alot of the locker room polls that have nothing to do with religion have turned into to religious debates. i am somewhat religious but when i go to a poll about non religious topics i would prefer to keep it non religious. everyone has the right to their religious beliefs but it seems more people are trying to push their beliefs on others. the locker room is supposed to be fun let's keep it that way. if you want to talk about religion make a question about it.

+7 thumbs upreligion is an important part in alot of people's life, but it doesn't need to be brought up in polls that have nothing to do with religion.

While I agree that people have a right to their own beliefs and opinions,  people do need to realize that others may not agree or believe the same way they do and stop pushing their beliefs and opinions on them in an effort to get them to change their lives to your liking. Make sure you are perfect before you try fixing someone else!

oh.. and keep the polls on topic too!

+9 thumbs upIn defence of those who do bring it up so much I believe that religion is so important to them that they make it part of everything they do in life.  I admire people who have such conviction.  That being said, I would appreciate it if it was not brought up so much.  While I do have my religious beliefs I still believe there is a time a place for everything.

+10 thumbs upCraig, I agree with you. If a poll is created about believing in God or heaven, then OK, religion is the main discussion. I understand that a non-religion poll can be hijacked into religion and also into so many other subjects. I just thank God I never have hijacked a poll. You know like talking about the existence of God, the theory of evolution, or if the chicken came first. But I was really surprised to see Josh Hamilton jack 28 homers in the HR derby, because I'm not sure if the running back position is as crucial as the quarterback's. I mean, do you really need restrictor plates at Taladega? Besides, I usually have my steak medium-rare.    Good poll and good point.

Craig, I can agree with you in theory.  Perhaps "religion" is discussed too much.  Personally I seldom discuss "religion" while I will insert my view of "faith" and how it may apply or add to various discussion topics.  Also, with very few exceptions I don't feel that I "PUSH" my faith on anybody.  If someone feels that I do perhaps that is their issue to own and not my issue to take on....hmmmm?

It might be said that "sex" comes up in topics where "sex" is not the direction set by the topic or the explination given by the pollster.  I know that "sex" is something that is going to appear with great regularity and it just doesn't bother me unless it is vulgar or just gets out of hand---if that happens I have two options:

1)complain to a mod or 2)just exit the poll.

Likewise, if you don't like reading what someone is writing, don't read it.  Go over it to the next comment.  Is it that hard?  Everyone, flat out everyone, has the right to make comments if they stay in line with the standards of FanIQ.

That said, I do agree that sometimes the faith issues pop up where they are not topical.  However, faith issues "can" pop up and make sense where you may not think they are topical but yet they are.

Take care Craig, and God Bless!

I also have an opinion, and I shall express it in another poll that has nothing to do with religion.

In the meantime, how bout the presidential election?

I'm Roman Catholic and I certainly keep the faith, HOWEVER, as Kerri said there's a time and place for everything.  If you're making a poll about religion, discuss it, but I don't need to constantly hear about your religious beliefs and have them shoved down my throat on a daily basis.

+6 thumbs upAs much as I like politics being brought up in a non-related thread.

+2 thumbs upIt probably shouldn't be brought up in a non religion poll. But if the poll is a political one, it will most likely be brought up, especially since one particular party (GOP) has cornered the market on religious voters. For the most part.

+1 thumbs upIf the GOP is the "relogious voters' then why do we keep seeing so much on TV about Obama's pastors and his religion? I haven't seen 1 newscast where they talk about McCain's church... but can't go a day without having to hear about Obama's religion!

That's easy.  Because they haven't found anything negative about McCain's church (yet).  The media doesn't know how want to report positive information.

+9 thumbs upI only think it's appropriate to talk about religion when people are blatantly sinning against God.  I mean, for instance Raiders fans, they need Jesus.  Also, NY Yankee fans, they have clearly sold their souls to the Devil.  They need Jeeezus.  Anyone on this poll who hath, so blatantly disagreed with me in this poll, repent for the coming of the Lord is upon you and Satan will come out like a funny looking serpent with one eye and one fang for the second hath fallen out due to old age and rocks getting in it (there is a lot of rock between the earth's crust and hell), for you have served him and served him well and he is taking you as his own prize to a place of fire and brimstone.  (Dear God was that really one sentence?)  Repent or you will be taken away by Locusts to Egypt where you will serve Pharoah and Moses at a winery in beautiful downtown Egypt!

My position is that their are many of us who post pictures of scantily clad women/men on responses or polls which may offend people.  So why would I take offense at religious posts or debates?  Madonna could have her own category on both.
