Will Alex Smith Resurrect his Career as the QB for the 49ers ?
After 2 years of sitting on the sidelines Alex Smith has once again landed the starting QB spot for the San Francisco 49er's, Smith had a good performance against the Texans' when coach Singletary call on him after benching Shaun Hill Smith finished 15-22 for 206 yards and 3 TDs. So will Alex Smith live up to #1 overall pick or will he be the same old Alex Smith Mr. inconsistent ?

I think we might have to conclude that JT OSullivan and Mike Martz were not the answer for the 49ers offense.

IDK is a crappy answer, but I really don't know. I think that the coaching is going to be the worst problem for Alex, i.e. I don't know that they can come up with schemes that will let him be productive.

Yeah its hard to say he had 5 offensive coordinators in his career as a niner, so who's say it all his fault but yet he ahs been inconsistent !! guess its just wait & see !!

The Colts will give more problems than the Texans did.  The Texans thought they had the game won being so far ahead, but the Colts now have him on film to prepare for him.

OMG that was the biggest joke in 49er history even worst then when they lost Deberg and the back up in 74 and freddie solomon had to QB and they ran the wishbone offense for 2 quarters.

All I can say is the D needs to step up against Peyton , If the Offense can play like they played against the Texans' in the second half we have a chance but the Colts D is way better than the Texans so Alex is gonna have to step it up a notch and play flawless

Hello All New to FAN IQ, but an avid sports fan.   I see changes in the 49ers, however here is my take and I do not care if you disagree...first we need a vet QB, some one to teach the younger ones what the game is all about.  he does not have to completely take over, but there is need to show what to do and what not to do..I do not see the coaches doing this...we also need to get rid of Bruce..sorry...where is Marvin Harrison?  A complete WR, again a vet, to show unselfishness, this is a team sport, and selfishness is not allowed.  We have a very young team and the vets we do have only a few are teaching the younger players, YES I LOVE TKO SPIKES..but who else is there.  Successful teams have the better of both worlds..youngsters and vets.  Let's get it together 49ers.

I agree with all of you in your points I was at that game today and I must say our defense played their BEST today but we cant close out games and seal a WIN. I love mike for his effort and getting our team going but he is not a good head coach, i think we need veterns in several positions including HEAD COACH. We have some money next year to make moves so we need to make them other wise we will hurt in the long run. We have a very good team we can still make the playoffs IF WE CAN CLOSE OUT GAMES, im not dissin gour NINERS im just saying that we need to make some MAJOR CHANGES but for the most part I BELIEVE IN OUR NINERS AND WILL NEVER GIVE UP ON THEM

When exactly did Alex Smith have a career to resurrect?

Alex Smith did EXACTLY what I said he would do against the Colts! He had an AVERAGE to below average game... 198 yards 1TD pass and 1 int.... Nothing spectacular and NOTHING different than what Shaun Hill would have done!  Bottom line, there are no " Moral Victories" in the NFL and the Colts are 7-0 while the 49ers have a losing record at 3-4.

And yet another horrible coaching move having Nate Clements return punts. Who in their right mind has an 80 million dollar investment returning kicks? That's just asking for him to get hurt and guess what? Now he's hurt and might miss the rest of the season.

Now the niners are without their best cover corner all because the idiot coaches can't figure out the kick return situation.

I think Alex Smith did just fine, I say stick with him-- his one interception against the Colts was a tipped pass that was right on the money and the receiver (I think it was Crabtree) tipped it to a Colts' defender.  Any QB that would've thrown that pass would've had it picked off.

And I second the notion,  to improve the passing game, the 49ers need to get better at WR, not play the 'QB shuffle' game.

Smith is now just 25 years old and actually has some weapons on offense now. He is more mature, has less pressure on him, a better head coach, and a different attitude.

If he doesn't succeed now he never will.

Hey, aren't you the same guy who said (last season) that "Alex Smith sucked and was a waste of a draft pick"?  I believe you also said that Shaun Hill was the best QB on the roster-  just a thought....

Smith could be the answer the Niners have been looking for, but only if they play to his strengths.  Obviously when he played the second half of the Texans game, he felt very comfortable playing in the spread offense.  The Niners played that offensive scheme because they had to play ketchup, and since then that haven't played it so much.  If the Niners would play more of a spread offense, then I think that Smith could do very well the rest of the year, and maybe at least get some what on track.

Alex Smith will NEVER be an NFL Quarterback.  His reads are simply too slow.  Smith was a MAJOR mistake in being selected as the # 1 overall pick in 2005 out of Utah, Aaron Rodgers is 4-5 times the Quarterback that Alex Smith is.  Rogers was selected 20th by Green Bay in the same draft.  Smith turns the ball over way too much to be an effective NFL signal caller, in todays game against Tennessee he fumbled twice and threw 3 interceptions, the 49ers losing 4 of those turnovers.  Singletary's offensive requires no turnovers.  I would release Alex Smith, get rid of him, he is a disaster, a major mistake, he will never be an effective NFL QB.

Alex Smith throws ANOTHER GAME AWAY LOL!  Wow, he's freaking AWESOME!  LMAO    The Titans?? The Titans?? You are joking right?  The (previously)  1-6 TITANS??? And the game was in Frisco???     hahahahahahahahhahaha

The 49ers need a new QB and they need some new coaches, frankly. The coaches are the guys who are putting in these players week after week and calling these plays week after week. With two first rounders next year, they better get a QB either by trading or drafting.

I was using the term "awesome" as sarcasm! BTW the Cowboys are 6-2 and your 49ers are 3-5 (that's a 3 game lead with 8 more to go), that bet is looking really good to me now! Tell you what, I'll give you this ONE CHANCE to call the bet off RIGHT NOW! No hard feelings and no questions asked (I won't even punk you over it either)- DEAL or NO DEAL? If not- you'll be flying that COWBOYS ARE THE GREATEST NFL FRANCHISE EVER banner for 30 days- no doubt in my mind! Deal or no deal?

You're a cool dude Vin. Next time I'm in Vegas Im buying drinks and if you're feeling up to it you can show me those singledeck hotspots we've talked about.

Together we can show the world that IT IS possible for a Niner and Cowboy fan to co-exist peacefully.
