The Royals suffered due to streaky hitting mostly.  We lost a couple of our best hitters early in the year, and it took awhile for them to get going again.

Bettencourt was a nice addition, again didn't get going until the series against the tiggers in Sept.  By then Buck and Gordon were back to batting .300+ as well.

So the Royals need to add another mature batter.  No more 'building for the future' crap.  We've been doing that for 20 years.  Time to add a couple of 25 year olds in there.  Another good starting pitcher would be nice.  But DON'T TRADE GRIENKE!

We just need to make it back there for the 3rd year in a row, and anything can happen!

Tigers have to shore up pitching - they are close and need one more quality starter and one more good set up man.  Bonderman coming back strong would be a big plus. Cabrera needs to grow up and be a man - a mature, dedicated Cabrera could be a Pujols clone.

Twins - need both pitching and middle infield help.  M & M will keep the team competitive, but in order to attract Joe Mauer to sign a long term contract they will have to get him and Morneau some real help.  Mauer will probably accept less money to stay in MN ($25M/year vs. $30M/year), but the Twins management will have to spend that savings on a quality player.

astros aren't going anywhere unless we do a full house cleaning:
first we need to get an owner who actually cares about the team and not the investment. then, we need to get a front office who doesn't settle for .500 ball. then we need to get a gm who understands fully the concept, "pitching wins champinships" and uses that concept as a guideline for doing his job.

i'm not even going to get started discussing who stays and who goes until the important stuff gets done first. until the front office gets a frontal lobotomy...it's not worth my energy or hopes to get into the players aspect of things.

One impact bat.  But none are available.

Two really good bats.   But are the Giants really going to get involved in a Jason Bay bidding war?
Is Gonzalez really available?  If so, would the Giants be able to get him without giving up too much promise?

I honestly do not know where the extra offense will come from.  If the Giants had thrown the brinks truck at Teixiera they would be National League Champions.  I'm sure of it.  But you can't un-ring a bell.

I'm not even sure if Jason Bay is the answer.

No...  Bay by himself is not good enough.  The Giants won't find the answer in this year's free agent crop.  They may be forced to go at it again with minimal offense next year if Sabes can't pull of a steal kind of trade.

It sucks because last year the answer was Tex.  Not only was he the impact bat they needed, but it solved their first base problem as well.  This year...   There is no one who would be worth the money they will likely command.
