The point of this poll is not to complain or offer solutions for change. We got what we got now, so let's live with it and hope for change.... (not Obama type change, but real change...)

I'm struggling a little bit with how to use my respects. There seems to be a glitch in the system, but that again is another issue. I gave 34,000 ish accolades over an 11 month period. (take away about 2 weeks for a short, er, break). That's roughly 100 a day! So now I can only give 10% of that. I'm jonesing, having major withdrawals, got the shakes.... I'm like a kid with a bag of candy, I want it to last, but I want to eat it all now!

So here's my question for you Q'rs...

What criteria are you going to use when using your precious few respects? Will you use them for comments, quizzes, articles, polls (like this one, hint hint)? Will you use them mostly on your friends, or will you divvy them out to people you don't know?

#77 \| 14 days ago mojorisin188 (+)	when I was giving out my accolades before I had GIVEN over 15,000 in my short time on here. But sadly only RECEIVED maybe 1400. A friend asked me a very valid question once: So you like to give more than receive? It appears that way. (the story of my life) So it will be hard for me to choose wisely for giving out my respects. The "smarts" "Funnies" "Bolds" were pretty cool, because you could see how people reacted to your comments other than just giving "RESPECT" "Respect is EARNED not just GIVEN." I have said this before. And I stand by it.

Now you only have 10 a day to use, this won't make the site more clique-ish. I personally don't have a plan as to how I am going to use my "respects." I won't be giving them to anyone in particular. When I get done reading a post, poll, taking a quiz, or answering a trivia question. I simply ask myself, "was that respect worthy?" Enter the poll to see my answer

So as I had some down time while waiting for another turn of a document, I had the opportunity to read through some of the polls and articles created the last week. I thought one of the reasons for limiting the the amount of accolades/respects, was that they were being given out in a loose fashion and awarding all comments no matter how inane they were. The theory went that since each member had less respects to give out in a new system, those accolades would go to just quality comments. If I look at the recent polls, I find this not to be the case. Yes, people are more selective in how they give respect, but lots of people are ignoring the quality posts and just giving respects to certain popular members no matter how little thought went into the post. I've seen several very short posts that weren't very funny or smart for that matter, that have multiple respects attached to them. In most cases, these respects were given either because the member is very popular or she is a hot chick. This in itself creates a further problem in that if a member is only using his/her respects to suck up to popular members/hot chicks, then that member is less likely to give a respect to a post/poll/hotlink that is actually quality. Now, I don't have a issue with this particularly, but I just thought I'd point out that the respect system isn't actually working out the way it was intended. Enter the poll to see my answer

I am limited to two per day. I actually like that option for the most part as well. I give Respect for anything that makes me laugh... especially if it makes me spit out my drink from laughing so hard! Or things that are so incredibly smart I wish I would have said it instead. Leslie, you're right...there will always be some aspects of a popularity contest or you're hot so I'm giving you respect/accolades in any system. The old system was no different. The point I'm trying to make is that to some extent, this new system has back fired. I realize that we're limited in the amount of respects (hell, I could give two respects to 5 hot girls daily and ignore the more deserving posts) we're allowed to give but that doesn't mean that some posters actually look for quality post to give accolades to. This is no different than before, but, now (in my mind anyways) it is more perverse because of the limited amount of respects we can deliver. In the old system, the quality posts tended to get more than the unthought out responses although the unthought out ones got accolades anyways. In the new system, the unthought out responses may get accolades because of who posted, and the quality posts might get less because some accolade givers have run out of respects to give. Take a look around... a quality well thought out response right beside a two word inane response given by an attractive girl; the inane response has 4 respects while the quality response has none.
