I've done these recipe polls before, so you know the drill. If you haven't seen the finished product check them out here (click the pics):

So now, with the holidays coming up it's time to give us more of your holiday recipes! Have you got a special way of roasting, frying or bbq'ing a turkey? Or do you do ham instead? What about something non-traditional? (I've done lasagna before). Which types of pies do you make? Do you have yams? Do you candy them? Do you do something else special? Tell us all about your typical holiday!

#5 \| 16 days ago icfeet (+)	Thanksgiving is a day for FAMILY...while Christmas is a "family" holicay, there is usually a lot of hustle and bustle with the presents, etc...Thanksgiving is aboutthe food, fun, and FAMILY. I'll share a recipe....did this last year for "appetizers" at Thanksgiving, but it's good for ANY time. Perdue Frozen Chicken wings...put em on a baking sheet...pour SOY SAUCE(yes....SOY SAUCE) over them. Add a little water to the pan...cook one side at 450 for 30-35 minutes...then flip em over and add more soy sauce..a little water...another 30-35 minutes. They don't really TASTE like soy sauce...but people think u have some special sauce. These can be used for appetizers...or when watching Super Bowl or other things.... Yes, that is a term. My sister has it as well, but in the most severe of ways. Once she called me multiple times while I was in class for an emergency, I get up and out of the room to call her back, and she needed to know how to nuke a hotdog. The are the best too! AND Chocolate Chip cookies & Brownies from scratch. Considering I cook once a year, here is what a "recipe" looks like to me: *Recipe to share: Cream Cheese Lemon Juice Horseradish sauce Tuna/Chicken (the canned stuff) Paprika How much of each? #9 \| 16 days ago Jess (+)	When my husband's not on duty, we do a big dinner at our place. We invite everyone from wherever we're stationed, with their families if they have them and have a potluck. I usually do a lasagna, two pumpkin pies, and I always make a green bean casserole because I don't like cream of mushroom soup (I use cream of chicken instead). I also make my homemade salsa and have all sorts of chips and a veggie tray. Usually we have someone we're sure is coming bring the turkey and/or ham, stuffing, and then everyone else can bring whatever types of food they want. It always ends up being really delicious, fattening, and fun. We alternate lazing around eating and watching football with actually going outside and playing a game amongst ourselves and one with the kids. When he is on duty, we eat down at the station with everyone. The food's usually decent; they deep fry a turkey, which I could probably never do. I still make my own green bean casserole though ;) Enter the poll to see my answer

#11 \| 16 days ago Shiloh884 (+)	We are kinda traditional (I think anyway). I only do Turkey because I am not supposed to eat ham nor is my husband and I love turkey. My mother would always do turkey for me at Thanksgiving and I would tolerate ham at Christmas. Called it a trade-off. Now I just can't eat the ham. I make cherry and pumpkin pie and if I have blackberries, I make a blackberry cobbler which is my favorite. Yes, I make them from scratch except the pumpkin, I use canned. A lot of people think I'm nuts because when I make my gravy from the turkey drippings, I put in the usual stuff plus chopped onions and diced boiled eggs. My Mama and Grandma always did and I do. It really adds a great flavor to the gravy. If the family is together (which isn't often anymore since we live all over the place) I make cookies and snacks for the grandkids (my kids still snitch a bunch of them too). I have to have mac and cheese because if I didn't they would kill me. Then of course, we have to have FOOTBALL!!! Enter the poll to see my answer

#12 \| 16 days ago kramer (+)	Thanksgiving for me is usually watch the Lions lose, start watching the Cowboys and eat dinner with the TV still in view (eat at dining room table for this), go back into the living room to watch the rest of the Cowboys game, eat some of my mother's amazing pumpkin log for desert, and let the tryptophan kick in while watching the 3rd game. #14 \| 16 days ago huskerfan_ia (+)	1. Turkey, prefer deep fat fried, I like the wing and a little breast meat please. 2. Traditional, I think... Mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, relish tray (pickles (4 kinds), radishes, olives (2 kinds), stuffed celery, carrot sticks, pickeled beets), yams, stuffing, cranberry sauce (more detail below) and dinner rolls 3. Pumkin and Apple pies (sometimes people bring over pie made from Rhubarb, they don't get invited back the next year....) 4. Yeah, f. says it all pretty much. 5. I did that once, up at 4:00 am, flyers and a list in hand. Never. again. ever! 6. Well, the relish tray (see #2) is my specialty. I'm also good at salty snacks and carbonated beverages. Pretzels and nuts, bud light and amber bock. But the one thing I have to do, to make sure it makes it to the table, is the cranberry sauce. People try to get all cutesy and fancy with the cranberries, using real berries and chopping other crap to put in there. Then serving it up on a pretty platter... I say bs to that, take your salad and your rhubarb pie and go sit in the other room with that schtuff. Anyway, the way to serve cranberry sauce is right out of the can. Don't cut it up, let your guests do that, the ridges from the can make great marks for slicing. Perfection! The way nature intended it. mmmm, that's the way you do it. #15 \| 15 days ago blondie45044 (+)	Turkey I buy it mom has the oven. Cheesecake never tried it till recently thanks goodness! It is awesome but it leaves pounds on the hiney! Instead I love sweet tators which I have not tried till recently, something about cheese and cake sounded yucky. Sweet and tators sounded un - country but moms are awesome! I will come back with a recipe after I get my cookbook we put together when I worked in a drapery factory! I just gave a respect without hitting it! It is magic! Enter the poll to see my answer

#16 \| 15 days ago Jess (+)	Heck yea - I prefer the canned cranberries myself! Actually one year one of our friends (a single military guy, no less) brought the Turkey. That sucker was beautiful and delicious! I swear he must have had someone come over and cook it for him before he came over. Anyway it had fresh whole cranberries garnishing it, with rosemary sprigs etc. He said he baked it with the cranberries...and then we used those to make the sauce. It was amazing. But...I'm lazy, and the canned are pretty good too. Enter the poll to see my answer

Strawberry Jello 1 (13 1/2 oz.) can crushed pineapple 1 (2 oz.) pkg. frozen strawberry's 1 (1 lb.) can Whole cranberry sauce 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened 1/2 c. chopped pecans Mix jello by instructions, throw the rest in stir and let it set up at least over night. Best if you use the whole cranberries and crush em. This also lets you get rid of the stress of husband watching TV and not helping! I used to cook it for my family every year and we would eat about 5 or 6pm and afterwards all the kids mine and my neices and nephews would decorated my Christmas Tree. The men watched football and the females washed the dishes. me and my sister and the kids did the tree. I think we had the most fun. We always had a traditional dinner. Turkey and all the fixings. Roast is done for christmas....perogies and gnocchi, and a macoroni salad from her(my wifes) side of the clan....i taught her how to do a rice dressing, deviled eggs and a three beans salad...and rolls cant forget the rolls.. the usual pies pumkpkin,apple,cherry one year i tried my hand at a new salad with broccoli and califlower and almonds and raisins.Man that was off the hook.oh and i make a cheese and cracker platter. one jar of dried beef, dice that up real small and cream and mix that togather and slather that on a cracker of your choice...... my ex wife had a aunt that would have spaghetti and chicken togather.......how could you foul up a fowl like that,,,,just wrong..... and of course dressing. my wife does that one...back home in louisiana my sister and her family is having duck this year for dinner.....what ever floats your boat or you canoe....HAPPY THANSGIVING EVERY ONE Enter the poll to see my answer

I celebrate regular old Thanksgiving with my family and I don't have to cook a thing (THAT'S what I'm thankful for!). We all hang out, eat like ravenous beasts, then watch some football and talk (anyone who has met my family knows that "talk" translates into argue and give each other usually good-natured ribbings all night long). The other Thanksgiving dinner is what we lovingly (and officially) call "J's Annual Big Gay Thanksgiving" and that's pot-luck. It's my own Thanksgiving dinner at my place where I invite mostly my close gay friends that have nowhere to go for Thanksgiving. Most of them either have no family nearby or were not welcome at their family event because they're gay (yeah, people still do that ... even in my area). So I have my own dinner and we celebrate, usually the weekend after or before, depending on everyone's schedule. Other straight friends come too (if they have nowhere to go ... can't invite everyone, my place is NOT that big!), but it started out for those whose families put them out and wouldn't invite them to Thanksgiving. Main Course= Wings and pizza with a Budlight! 2.Side Dishes=Ranch for my Wings and a few shots of GoldSlogger. We watch football and play softball if its warm enough. If it's just the three of us-- my wife, teenage daughter, and I-- we may cook but we may just go out, as we're planning on this year. Country Buffet, probably. Let someone else serve it and clean it up. As far as Black Friday goes, I worked far too many years in retail, including six at Target. I've both opened and closed on that day. Target never opened earlier than 6 a.m. so the earliest I had to be there was 5:30, but still, I vowed that once I was no longer working retail, I wasn't stepping foot in a store that day again.
