Can't we just get along...
Once again I have put a lot of time and effort into a band, get a real good thing going only to watch folks get wigged out. It is like no one can just enjoy the success of it all for long periods of time. I told the keyboard player guy who has been a bud for twelve years today that I just don't know if it's worth the trying anymore. He said that really broke his heart to hear me say that. But geez, I'm like 100 years old, starting over with another band formation is getting old. The frustrating part is I'm playing guitar as well as ever, and I don't want to stop completely.

Anywho, here's my question, 'is there something you love doing but constantly having someone flip out, change the game, or make you want to just mind-kick a couple of dudes in their nads?'

Thanks.

Stop the hating, Beans.
You read kinda b!tchy tonight.
Quit cracking on the Cubs and that junk would cease.
Don't stop cracking on the Cubs, Beans.
Musicians... what do you expect?
Yeah, I had this jerk do this...
Yeah, I had this jerk do that...
Naw, everything goes my way.
You're just tired Beans, it will work out.
Somebody needs a hug.
Someone needs to sack the **** up (Kevin, Cactus Jack, Jason, and Joe selection).
100 isn't so old.
Just do your own thing and quit messing with all that shiznit.
Buy a ukulele and chill. It's time.
Good time to start on a nursing home tour, the chicks will dig it.
Other.
The most others in the world.
Non-other.
IDK.
I miss Ashlie... (sigh).

Thanks all, I was aggravated/frustrated and just needed to talk to 90,000,000 folks last night. I will ride it out and see how it all shakes out. I have some great opportunities to do solo/duo things. I gotta just get of my backside and go out. I think doing something for my own selfish pleasure (something with both hands) would be a good thing.

Thanks for reading and writing.

Well I'm not all that talented, but if you love it you should keep doing it. I mean even though you deal with some flaky people, you might be unhappy if you stop! Hang in there Beans *wink* *kittie.gif* :)

I've only worked once in a creative group setting and I swore to God and two other responsible people I'd never do it again. 20 years later, I may do it again. LOL I feel your pain tho. Clicking is hard to actually click, plus there's always a weird "relationship" dynamic involved, but with more than just two people. Ugh.

I'm not sure it's possible.  There is always one person who starts s**t, especially if a bunch of women are together.

Don't quit, keep your creative outlet, or  you'll turn in to a miserable and frustrated public employee.

My ex has had his drums stacked up for 11 years.  It's a total waste of talent.   Same reasons.   Bands get hot,
people get nervous, don't want to travel.   Wives bitch.   Bass players flake out.  Singers get big egos, hmmph.

You and your keyboard player, get some drum tracks, become a duo, and make more money.  That's the ticket.  heart

It's all about the tolerance levels.............All bands have their Sheldon Coopers in them. But the worst band killers besides "Yoko"  are the control freaks.

as you are now like 100 years old like me,  you need to stop trying to please others before yourself.   do what you feel. don't seek validation or approval from others.  no matter what you do SOMEONE is always gonna flip out. who gives a sh*t what they think?  it's your life.  they need to get over it.

It is really easy for people to give other people advice on how to handle their problems.I was in alcohol counseling for a great many years and I find it is more beneficial to listen to them and how them make the decesion I think you already know the answer to keep playing or not now the question is how for you to feel comfortable with your choice.Good luck and may god always bless you

Hang in there Beans....I see s*&t happening with my son's band(s) all the time....had a band with Max Weinberg's son, opened a show for Rush in 2007...got paid $10K....had a good thing going...and personalities drove my son (front man, bass player) out...mostly between son and Weinberg....they're still friends, just not musically.  Kinda like a family, however dysfunctional it is..

Hang in there. I`d give my left nut to have a career in music. Uuuum I should rephrase that cause the ex already took it!frown

my roomie goes through this a lot. in and out of gigs and even bands. he's tired of covers, but thats what venues around here typically want. and to start an original gig, he demands musicians who are dedicated enough to set a practice schedule. one day, he'll stomp around griping about the curse of being a musician and the next, there's a badass drummer who likes to be called "dr. nugg" jamming with jon on some new funk loops. hard as it is to see the constant ups and downs he takes on with his love of music, i always support him doing it. even if somedays that gets me called a "flighty dreamer." i imagine its impossible to turn your back on a passion like that.

Thanks for the posts, I am wired to just try to get everyone to get all. It can be frustrating. I played my acoustic guitar on my front porch while sipping on three Sierra Nevada Torpedoes and smoking a pretty good cigar yesterday after work. Enjoyed every second of it.

Kevin, maybe we can break out our ipods and jam together one day.
