Each year the odds stack up against the 48 team more and more. If something happened to Chad Knauss, the team would be in serious trouble. Look for an unexpected to take it home this year. I do not think it will be from the Hendrick stable, nor "The Cat in the Hat".

I'm hoping the winner's from Stewart Haas Racing....long shot I know...but I agree that we may see someone not from the big teams do it this year!

I think more Teams will have caught on to the COT Car and the way in handles by the start of this Years NASCAR Sprint Cup Season, making it harder for him to do it.  But, he is a Late Bloomer as the season wears on, and he has the best Crew Chief in the business!!  I think it would be nice for him to break the Consecutive Championships record. But, you heard it here first, Carl "Flipper" Edwards will be our next Sprint Cup Champ,

The more he wins in a row, the more difficult it becomes. And I agree, if something happened to Knaus, that team would have a huge hole to dig out of. Jimmie is a great driver, but its really the combination of he and Chad together, along with help from a great team, that have gotten him this far. I look for someone else to win, but I don't count out HMS as a whole or the Roush stable.

Jimmie is my # 2 driver, he's good. but I think all odds say no this year. I think Jeff Gordon will be there this year, followed closely by Jimmie, and Dale Jr.. Guess What it's really boilin down to is this. The HENDRICK'S BOYS are gonna get er done this year!!!!

It just did not seem like an American sport when Toyota jumped in. I guess if you have the money now days, you can buy anything. I totally 100 percent agree with you on this one. But not that Jimmie will win 4 this year, sorry!!!

How could the 48 win? He hasn't cheated once this year. (YET)  I'm really surprised on how well he is doing without cheating. Shows he can drive a car.

Honestly I think Stew-rat will win he has been consistent.

Chad "the cheater" Knaus, the best crew chief? Come on now really? yeah he knows his stuff but he has got the 48 team into so much trouble over the years. Being known by "The Cheater" or "Cheatin' Chad" is not something to be proud of. I wouldnt want him as my chief.

It's a given that Junior will not make the Chase. :(  However, I don't see JJ making it 4. He's reverting back to his bad days with that chip on his shoulder...not good.  Shh.....can you hear the voices??  Here kitty, kitty, kitty!!   Keep your eyes on Smoke. He wants to win it so bad and he sure has the fire lit and it's burning strong. Last week, come from 33rd to 4th....that's what it's going to take. My pick is Smoke.

Jimmie is a great race car driver with a great crew chief.  He has the talent to win a 4th but I think he will come up just shy.  Jeff, even though he is my driver, wont take this year either.  It will be a chase between Mark Martin and Tony Stewart with smoke at the end holding the trophy.

I don't watch much NASCAR anymore. Drag racing is my big thing these days. NASCAR has just gotten way out of hand and I prefer a match where you bring your best car and try to win with it. Something NASCAR USED to be.

But to comment on this subject; would be cool if he did win 4. He's a good driver but he'll have to fight for it.

I'm a JJ fan. I bought the odds against him bit, till he slammed a 90 point lead with a few races left! He has to screw up in a DNF way and the odds of that are very low!

4 in a row is an amazing accomplishment.  It will bring attention to the sport, and set a new benchmark of excellence and domination for others to reach in the future.

Think about other sports and era's of domination of other teams, Yankees, Gators, Huskers , Cowboys, Celtics...  Have any of their runs hurt their sports?  Yeah, to the die hard fan is stinks (unless it's your team of course).  But the richness and history it adds to have a consistently dominant team is priceless.

How many of you started paying attention to the Tour de France when Lance Armstrong had his run of dominance?  How many of you know who Micheal Phelps is but have no idea where the Olympic swim trials are held?

As a casual Nascar fan, I think this is a great thing for the sport.  (though I'd rather see Martin win it this year)

I also would love to see Mark Martin win it and I'm not a Mark Martin fan.... just think it would be a great ending to a great story.

As for Jimmie Johnson winning 4 in a row, the biggest problem with JJ is he just isn't exciting.  I will say if you are a JJ/Knaus fan, it may be exciting but for most other people, he just doesn't generate excitement in the traditional Nascar sense.  He gives no reason to like him or dislike him.... he just kind of puts people to sleep.  I picture Jimmy having milk and cookies at 10 pm and going to sleep with his favorite teddy bear...... not a bad thing..... just not very exciting!

I understand exactly what you're saying.  The traditional Nascar fan follows a driver and a sponsor, based on personality and success.

Nascar's broader appeal however is the skill and consistency of a good driver.  I really like Jimmie Johnson, but I know nothing about him personally.  Same with Kyle Busch, even though he's hated by a majority of traditional fans, he's one of the best drivers out there right now.

For traditionalists, I can understand why Jimmie winning 4 in a row would be considered a bad thing (unless you're a Jimmie fan), but for the average sports fan who's a casual observer of Nascar, it ranks very high as one of sports highest and greatest accomplishments (if it happens).

Yes, looks like it's a done deal.... as long as he finishes 25th or better, if I heard that correctly.

I agree with huskerfan, it's the same reason I'm a Tiger Woods fan, but I honestly didn't follow golf at all prior to April 13,1997.  But this skill you speak of, is it genetic or learned?

Good, so you mean there's a Peyton Manning like NASCAR driver?  I don't need to have a "bad boy" to enjoy my sports/entertainment, maybe I've found someone to root for, if I decided to watch.

I am with the few that it is another Johnson and Knauss effort cause he is no better then the other top drivers.  May this please be his last with him being in the history books as the only driver to do this feet but I believe it is gonna be his last!!  I actually get tired of his winning everything all the time.  As for anyone thinking this is gonna put NASCAR in a new ball park you are wrong.  With this new COT car NASCAR ratings have fell off.  Most of the races are boring to watch and why bother when there is only one guy that can seem to win.  Stewart/Haus has been excellent this year and I would have not expected anything less from Tony.  I wanted Mark Martin to win cause that is the one thing that he has never got with all his years in racing.  Let's hope that next year there will be more competitive racing.  Go Earnhardt, Sr.
