Will Phil Jackson be more remembered as a Bulls coach or a Lakers coach?
I don't mean to brag but I think this is a helluva question.

Depends on who you ask.  Jordan will be remembered more than Jackson as the person responsible for those 6 Championships.  With the alleged Shaq and Kobe feud, along with the ability to win a ring with just Kobe would put Jackson more into the realm of being remembered more as a Lakers' coach first, since it would seem like he had a better overall coaching performance.  A question that can be better answered when he retires.

I agree with ^^^ him. I don't associate Phil Jackson as the Bulls coach becuase it seems he had a much bigger impact on Kobe and the Lakers' 3 championships. Jordan and Pippen and maybe even Dennis Rodman will be remembered as the main guys on the Bulls teams before Jackson.

I associate Phil Jackson with the Bulls. That's where he won 6 of his championships, and where he coached MJ and Pippen. But if he wins his 10th ring with the Lakers, and passes Red for the most all time, idk which team I'd associate him with.

First  for us old guy's that remember when Phil played and won 2 or 3 rings as a player. The he perfected the Diamond Offense. Which with Jordan and Pippen as well as Paxson and he even tamed Rodmen down some when he played for the Bull's.  He couldn't get Shaq and Kobe to work together or they would of made the same kind off run's as the Bulls did. So with all that said. It is the Bull's hands down. The Bulls was M.J and Pippen and the rest knew there role on the team. With the "KOBE SHOWBOAT" it's all me or you can't play in my sand box mentallity.  The laker's will never be as good as the team Phil had as the Bulls coach. And for the Hater's out there.  M.J would and did take over a game when he need to.  He could of had alot of 60 plus game's. But it is a TEAM sport. Someone needs to tell Kobe that.

This generation seems to have a lot of alienated fans that only remember Michael Jordan from the 90's Bulls because "he had a shoe". They'll remember Kobe and Phil and their minor dissentions mainly due to their ignorance.

He is also building a Dynasty with the Lakers. Thats hard to say when I "HATE" Kobe! As a player he has unbelievable skills. But as an individual he is a poor excuse for a human. Anyone that will screw around on his wife less than 2 month's into there marrage. Then bust up one of the Best one two punch's in the history of basketball when him and O'Niel were together. Just because he thought he was all that and a bag of chips. He score's alot of points, but if you shoot 40 to 50 times a game hell your going to put those kind of numbers up every night.

Da Bulls.  He could have won eight in a row if MJ didn't retire the first time.  His zen like approach also changed MJ's approach to the game.

I'll say both. He coached Jordan & Kobe/Shaq to multiple championships so I dont think you can just limit him to 1 of the franchises.

The Lakers already had 6 championships in LA prior to Jackson. (Another 5 prior when they were in Minneapolis). The Bulls before Jackson had nothing. Los Angeles was already an established team before Jackson even got there.

The thing I will remember about Phil is that the Bulls never made serious noise in the playoffs until he came along. Again, before he got to L.A. they had 4 all-stars and not even a conference championship. So there's a couple of things posted earlier that didn't make any sense.

He's no Red Auerbach, he's always had superior talent...People will remember Rodman more than Scottie.

Bill Sharman, KC Jones, Hondo, Hiensohn, Frank Ramsey, Cousey, John Thompson, and Bill Russell...All HOF'ers so there goes the superior talent.

I thought it was funny when ESPN voted MJ, Pip, and Grant one of the top 5 "big threes"  of all time. The Bulls were far and away more dominant when the team had The Worm on the Squad. People thought Kukoc was a softey and indeed his game was more finess than strength but his footwork was underrated and I'm pretty sure that Dirk's fadeway is mechanically identical to Toni's. With range for days and left handed to boot made Toni Kukoc a very difficult matchup.

By the way if anyone forgets that Scottie Pippen was one of the top small forwards of all-time and one of the top 5 players of his time then you're what we call the "casual fan" and casual fans need not participate in any hoops debates.

It depends on how many championships he gets with the Lakers. If he wins 2 or 3 more with the Lakers then I have no doubt that more people will have seen him as the Lakers coach and that will affect the way people remember him.

#24 | 232 days ago

This is a no brainer.  I think overall he will be known for both.  But what stands the test of time if this was his last year theoretically, then he would be best known for his six rings in Chicago alongside the best player of all time in MJ.  I say this being a hardcore Laker fan, but I do live in chicago, and was born here, so of course my favorite player is MJ, and what Phil and the crew did  here will be his legacy.  (Unless of course in the next 5 seasons, Phil wins four more rings...then its a tossup.  I would love to argue that point though.)

it really depends on which generation your talking about. I'm 15 so i can only remember him as Kobe and Shaq's coach and not Jordan and Pippens coach. Sure, I know he was their coach and they did incredible things, but so did the Lakers. So the younger generation will remember him as a Laker and the slightly older will remember him as a Bull. Thats my take on it

He won one ring with the Knicks, just for the record. And it is also the triangle offense I thought, not sure I've heard of the diamond offense?

It is kind of like asking who will be remembered more MJ/Pippen or Shaq/Kobe. Personally, I think MJ is like Babe Ruth and Kobe is more like Mickey Mantle. Both are all time greats, but one is on Mount Rushmore and the other will always be in that shadow. So I think Jackson is like that too, he'll always be more associated with the Bulls because of what he did with MJ.

really think that it depends on what he does for as long as he stays in L.A. He can really tarnish some of the great luster that he has built up over his career by just floundering in the playoffs as the Lakers has done since the departure of SHAQ. He wants to be mentioned in the same breath as "Red". in order for him to do that he needs to surpass the record 9 titles that they both share.

He will be known as the model coach , both Chicago and LA!! Phil has secured his status as the man that played and coached some of the greatest players in the game.  2 as a player with NY ( Willis Reed), 6 coaching Chicago ( Jordan, Pippen, Rodman) , 3 with LA (Kobe, Shaq) That's just to name a few players.  So he is a Superb Stratagist. The creator of Hack a Shaq Defense, The man that has perfected the triangle. Phil The Zen is the Master of the Game!

Tough question. I'm a Lakers fan and will gladly remember him as a Lakers coach, but he had great teams in Chicago as well. Either answer can be correct. The same type of question could be applied to Pat Riley I guess, but I think that one would be Lakers without a doubt.

I believe the Lakers and the Bulls will be remembered because of Phil. Would Michael have developed into the player/leader he became without Phil? Would Kobe be the player/leader he has become without Phil? They were and are both talented, but would they have matured in the game as they did and have?  Would the Lakers or The Bulls acheived the success they achieved without .......Phil? I believe both Michael and Kobe as well as all the other great players from those organizations know the significance of playing for Phil. Let's just say that Phil has had an exceptional run at this and not by accident.  He knows how to put a winning team together and develop raw talent.  People in the sports industry and those of us that love the game will definitely remember him for this. Nothing but respect for this man.
