Anyone who doesn't have Brady and Bledsoe at #1 and #2 (in that order) is wrong. It's not an opinion, either.

WTF??? #1 being Tom Brady and #4 being Matt Cassel is what everyone should have. You would have been better off asking who was the 2nd best QB for the Patriots between Grogan and Bledsoe.

I would rank Jim Plunkett ahead of Matt Cassel.

I really can't see how ANYBODY could rank Cassel ahead of ANYONE on this list. Cassel was the starting QB for 1 season- PERIOD! And ONLY because Brady got hurt, and is now a Kansas City Chief.......  WOW!

Ehhh. Bledsoe was more hype then he was good. He was definitely starting QB worthy but only had a couple great/good seasons to show for. It's more of a toss up then anything between Grogan and Bledsoe. Both lost playing in the Super Bowl but Grogan didn't start in the Super Bowl he played and when he came in that game he still finished 17-30 passing with a TD pass against one of the if not the greatest defense ever despite coming off a broken leg injury. He was a pretty solid running QB as well. He was a key to their turn around success because before he came they really hadn't had much of a team.

If anything, Bledsoe failed to meet the hype and could even be considered a bust by such standards. This really is no contest, Tom Brady IS the New England Patriots

" Cassell is way better than Grogan?"  Huh? please explain that logic!  Cassel played ONE SEASON for an injured Brady- with a LOADED TEAM already in place- a monkey could have led that team! And he didn't even make the playoffs- last time I checked he (Grogan)  was an ALL TIME PATRIOT GREAT.... Here is a small sample of what he did for the Patriots during his career....Played in 149 games during his 16-year playing career from 1975 - 1990 ... he is the Patriots' all-time career passing leader with 3,593 attempts 1,879 completions, 26,886 yards and 182 touchdowns ... he also rushed for 2,164 yards (4.9 avg.) and 35 touchdowns during his career ... his 35 rushing touchdowns rank third in Patriots history ... he also ranks third in club history with 12 rushing touchdowns (1976) that mark remains the most by a quarterback in NFL history ... he holds the Patriots' single-game record with a 227.8 quarterback rating, which he achieved by completing 13 of 18 passes for 315 yards and five touchdowns and no interceptions (9/9/79 vs. NY Jets) ... despite playing quarterback, he was still revered as one of the hardest hitters and toughest player in Patriots history.           NOW WHAT EXACTLY DID CASSEL DO??????  lol   Pretty sad that a Cowboys fan has to "school" a Patriots fan on their own history... LOL   I can give you more a lesson on Grogan if you like- I didn't even talk about his leadership or how he turned a 3 win team into a playoff team the very next year while taking out the Steelers (defending Superbowl Champs) and Raiders during the season on their way to their first playoff birth since 1963..........

For one, where is the evidence that Cassel is "alot better passer" than Grogan was... Cassel won 11 games in his short Patriots history- big deal- maybe you missed the weapons he had to throw to. Grogan won 11 games as well in his first season with the Patriots and took them to the playoffs with a team that won 3 games the year before. Cassel couldn't even hold Grogans jock strap as an ALL- TIME Patriots Best QB- and that is what this poll is about- correct?

Personally, I wouldn't have included a 1-year sensation in that list.  IMHO, to be one of the best for the franchise, they would need at least a 3-5 year starting role.  Cassel had a great year, but it was just that - one year.  I would have put Tony Eason in there before Matt Cassel...no knock on Cassel, it's just that he only produced for one year - not enough to be an all timer, in my book.

Yes, Grogan does still hold the record for rushing TD's for a QB. He has 35, which ranks him 3rd ALL-Time for the overall franchise and #1 as a QB!

Lest we forget that Brady played for Bledsoe when he got hurt with that major chest block....Bledsoe came in to get them to the playoffs & then bowed out gracefully...Grogan gave the Pats a name....so he is #2 by far....Then Cassell took the Pats to a great record considering that he never played an opener....sure he had a  well oiled machine to work with and served well in Brady's absence....but Brady can read plays & comes through in a pinch when they need a win....I am just glad he is back....I thoroughly enjoy watching him play.....

ok fact Bledsoe is #1 on this list even though i messed up so don't reply to this comment saying im totaly wrong.  but Bledsoe is better, most old qbs r better than current 1s, Bledsoe called his own plays! all Tom Brady realy has to do is throw it underneath to wes Welker and watch it turn in2 a 50 or 60 yard gain...or..... chuck it to randy moss deap, Brady wouldn't last a game in old  time football

Words can not possibly describe how incredibly inaccurate your assessment is. Tom Brady, when healthy, is the best QB in the NFL, bar none... possibly the best QB ever. Drew Bledsoe, even at his very best, held on to the ball too long, had zero mobility whatsoever in the pocket, and threw too many interceptions. He was a very good QB at one time, but Brady is truly great. There's a big difference there.

Grogan gets and easy number 2 based on heart alone!  That guy gave everything, every time.  Not to mention he was as cool as brady in the pocket (even though brady has had much better protection).

Matt Cassell and his 11-5 record in New England's last season PROVES beyond a shadow of a doubt- that the Patriots SYSTEM is what makes the QB!  New England is a VERY GOOD team, but how would Tom Brady have faired over the years if he played for the Browns???? Maybe this will help people understand that a QB is only as good as his TEAM!

Cassel 11-5... Brady 16-0.

Right now, I think we can agree that Matt Cassel is STILL better than anyone the Browns have, and that the Browns are somewhere between a 1-15 and a 3-13 team. Probably no better than that, right?

Add Cassel to that, and I think they get to 4-12. Add Brady, and you can make it 9-7. That's all speculation, of course, but no more than you've speculated. Yes, it's a nice system, but to try to discredit Brady in any way, shape or form is just a but foolish. Tom Brady is the best QB you have ever seen, whether you realize it or not. And you'll probably never see anyone better.

I'm not at all discrediting Brady- He is a HOF QB for sure! With that said though, honestly, he HAS prospered because of the TEAM and the great O-Line the Patriots have had over the years! Just as most will say that Aikman and Emmitt prospered from that great O-Line the Cowboys had in the 1990's- so has Brady prospered in the Patriots system! Take ANY HOF QB and put them on a crappy team and the results WILL BE the same! The team will still be crappy and the QB will fail! There aren't too many HOF QB's (already inducted) that played on crappy teams- and that IS a FACT!  I'm sorry if you don't agree with me, but Tom Brady ALONE would NOT make the Browns a WINNING team (or 9-7 as you speculate)- they need alot more than a QB to make them a winner!

My real point is that you continue to downplay the affect of Brady. I agree that the team is important, but remember this: With Brady in 2007, the Patriots went 16-0, with one of the greatest offenses in the history of the game. With all the same pieces, and Matt Cassel, they were slightly above average, and missed the playoffs. There is a HUGE difference between the Patriots of 2007 and the Patriots of 2008... and Cassel is actually pretty good. I think that speaks volumes not only to the system, but to the greatness of Brady.

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are in an entirely different category from everyone else in the league. I honestly believe that they could step into almost any team in the league right now, and give them at least 5 extra wins, immediately. When those two are at their best, they are really THAT good.

I respect your opinion, but NO WAY!  The Browns are a HORRIBLE team and would be lucky to win 3 games this entire season. They have NO receivers, NO running game, a HORRIBLE O-Line, and CRAPPY defense, etc. You REALLY think that adding Tom Brady would make them a winner at 9-7 (possibly good enough for the playoffs)- COME ON MAN!  Tom Brady IS one of the BEST to ever play the position but he IS NOT David Copperfield! How is Tom Brady gonna shore up the Defense, the running game, the O-Line????   Brady would be on HIS AZZ all day- just as Quinn/Anderson have been all season!

I think you're underestimating just how bad the QB play has been for the Browns. Their QB's have combined for 3 TD's and 13 INT's so far, and their offense averages less than 10 points per game. If the offense didn't screw over their defense so much, it really wouldn't be unreasonable to say that they could have won a couple more games. But their QB play has been even worse than terrible so far this year.

I am never the one to pretend that the QB is the only factor in a game, like some people do, but if they had someone competent under center, it would change a LOT.

All I'm saying is that Brady isn't just a system QB, and it's ridiculous that you continue to bring it up. Yes, he's in a good system. But he has also done quite a few things that no QB has EVER done, in ANY system. So to try to even slightly discredit anything just because of Matt Cassel's decent year is just insane.

Their average of 10 points per game is MORE attributed to the HORRIBLE O-Line than the QB play! When your QB has to run for life on every pass play- it's kinda hard to blame it on the QB position! And Tom Brady IS NOT known for his scrambling abilities, making him a complete SITTING DUCK for the pass rush! Tom Brady would not make ANY significant difference on the team right now! On the other hand, a QB who does posssess some sort of running abilites and can throw the ball a little bit (McNabb, Matt Ryan, Big Ben, even Tony Romo) would improve the Browns a wee bit! NOT a 5-6 game improvement but maybe 2-3!

Sheer talent puts Brady at the top of the list.  HOWEVEAH, Steve Grogan played QB as well as anyone in the NFL, given his short comings.  He put up terrific numbers and was a true leader.  He has the traits any intelligent coach could ask for.  If Grog an played in the current patriots system, I believe he would be as productive as Brady is.  The same cannot be said if Tom stepped into the Way-back Machine and played for the Grog an era Pats.  Guts, determination, competitiveness are all intangibles and Grog an was off the charts in these categories.  That's this reporter's humble opinion.
