Hands down it would be Brian Hayward---Anaheim Ducks color commentator. He is the biggest homer I have the displeasure of listening to when the Kings play the Ducks.

On that list it's Vitale for me, because of how annoying his voice is, but  Dierdorf is a close second.

During the 80's Tommy Heinson(or however you spell it) big celtic fan, never objective.

Tim Mccarver   just annoying period,  I still say  When Deion Sanders kept dumping the water on him  in the locker room was one of the all time greastest moments.

Joe Theisman  like Mccarver, Very annoying

Chris Berman: his schtick was cute in 1985, when I was 10.  I have evolved a bit since then, his annoying nicknames and inappropriate screaming have not.  Joe Morgan is a close second.

Kornheiser, I know he doesn't do games anymore, but he is still on PTI, and he should be working for one of those tabloid TV shows, not a sports show. Joe F**K is number 2.

Phil Simms with great comments like "If you want to put points on the board you have to get the ball in the endzone."  He must think a bunch of water heads are his viewing audience.

I agree with you on Chris Berman the nicknames are getting old and are not funny anymore.
2- Dan Dierdorf, would turn the sound down when he was talking.
3-Joe Thiesmann, he loved to hear himself talk.
4-Shannon Sharp, not to make fun of him but every time he talks it sounds as if his tongue is swollen.
If there was a poll for your favorite, I would say Keith Jackson I really enjoyed the college games he called.

1. LARRY MERCHANT for HBO Boxing...That dude is horrible in all aspects of commentary and announcing
2. Dan Deirdorf just likes to hear himself try to sound smart...big goob!
3. Mark Jackson & Jeff Van Gundy on the NBA...Great player, great coach...but shut up, the both of you!
4. Tim McCarver is another one...annoying to listen to (like he knows soooo much, yet is whining about it)

That's because he went to the John Madden School of Obvious Sports Observation.  Madden always said things like "Hey, if this team expects to win, they better score more points than the other team!"  Gee, thanks John.

I know it's not the same as this poll's intention, but there are a few NBA analysts and commentators that I can't stand.

Tom Tolbert (NBA color commentator) I can't stand it when he reverts to his playing days like he was anything significant as a bench warmer.

Bill Walton is just terrible and irrelevant, I can't believe they let him call the Finals a few times.

Kenny Smith is just plain annoying and I hate how Charles Barkley talks, they have the worst chemistry between them.

1) Merril Hoge...hey Merril, there is more than 1 team in the NFL.

2) Anybody involved with boxing on HBO. Merchant, Lampley, Manny Steward...they all seem to have an agenda, that being pushing one boxer over the other. SOmetimes I think I need new glasses, because I'm seeing a different fight than they're announcing.

3) Joe Morgan and Jon Miller...I can't watch a Sunday Night Baseball game featuring the Dodgers on ESPN, because both of these guys work for the Giants, and the Dodgers do everything wrong in their eyes.

I can think of a few - Kornheiser, Bayless, and Smith and Barkley (TNT Basketball).....

Kornheiser - ESPN made the right move, i canning him form their MNF Telecast - he added very little insight to the game and had to be reading off cue cards???

Bayless - I just hate his opinion and "voice" - always has to be right and never admits he is wrong

Smith and Barkley - Ernie Johnson would do be better as a solo act - If I need laughs, I will turn on the "Comedy Channel"

McCarver- annoying, and he should be smarter what with playing for so long. Everything comes from a NYC perspective. I am glad to see so may people on this poll write him in and am frankly surprised he wasn't on the ballot above.

As for Vitale, yes he is trite and can be annoying, but he is open about it and does not pretend to be something he isn't. He will always get a pass from me because of his joy and passion for college basketball. He love the ACC and Duke, (I do not), but he doesn't deny it or hide it.

Homer announcers - These do not bother me if the announcers are doing their own team's games for their own team's market - Tommy Heinsohn is a Celtic and always will be, and does not want to do 'national' games and pretend he is objective - anyone who does not understand that doesn't know what his job description is. He works for the Celtics station, not a network or a league.  Same with Harry Carey, Phil Rizzuto, and many other home team home market announcers. They are not paid or asked to be objective. That is why I have such trouble with McCarver, he is put out there as a national expert - and that is a joke.

Entertainment vs. Journalism - fans who confuse the two are not paying attention or are uninformed about what they are watching. The TNT team of Kenny Smith, Barkley and EJ are a nice mix of both - but don't confuse them with 'the sports reporters'. It's about entertainment and they get great ratings.  Not sure about teh chemistry comment about Kenny and the Mound. I think they have great chemistry. Berman is about entertainment - rarely does serious reporting any more - good to know that when you hear his voice.

On a local level, I have to say that Disco Dennis Eckersley (who is filling in for chemo recovering Remy on Red Sox broadcasts) is hilarious, and is a perfect blend of expert, articulate speaker, stand up comedian and journalist who can be a homer, as well as point out when (like he did last night) Varitek was in fair territory when he got hit by the throw going to first and should have been called out. When/if Remy comes back, they need to keep Eck there in the booth - he is worth listening to even if you hate baseball. LAst night he was totally into the Barry Gibb comparisons - but shut up about it and got back to the game when the score quickly went from 9-0 to 9-7.

Waiter, can I get a plate of hairy cheese?

I'm actually not usually listening too carefully to all those numbnuts when I'm watching football, baseball, hockey, but I have to say I cannot stand Madden, who is just plain maddening.

I do listen to NASCAR announcers though and the number one all time most annoying announcer EVAR is Rusty Wallace.  I cannot stand him and will put SIRIUS on with the TV to avoid listening to him.  Second is Tim Brewer and his endlessly annoying Cutaway car lessons.  I want to shove him in that cutaway car and drive him offf.......okay, well, you get the idea.

Locally, I really can't stand Rod Allen who is the color commentator for the Tigers - he played a couple of games for the '84 Tigers, but he makes it sound like he was the most important player on that team.  I can hardly even remember him playing for that team.  He is a lot better than he was when he started. so I will give him that.

...but, my "other" vote really goes to Tim McCarver!   I can't stand that guy!!!   Unfortunately, I am sure FOX has him pegged for the All-Star game tomorrow night.   Of all the guys that could possibly add insight to a game, why does FOX think that guy is any good?

...Dierdorf is a good pick too - I'll give him the silver medal for 2nd place (wonder how many times his broadcast partner has to wipe spit off of his face while sitting next to him?)

This is so easy for me... ESPN's NASCAR Nationwide coverage needs to get rid of Rusty Wallace.  I'm so sick of him talking his son up and always trying to claim he knows personally about stuff just to stir things up more, but never backs it up with any of his so called proof/personal experience.

Tony Kornheiser and Bill Walton...both think that their opinion should be accepted as gospel.  The way they talk down to some one with an opposing opinion just disgusts me.  I actually quit watching Monday Night Football 'cause of T.K. and will not watch an NBA game if Walton is commentating.  They just destroy any enjoyment of the games!

For those of you college football fans in the Pacific Northwest, you will be able to appreciate this - Barry Tompkins and Petros Papadopalis (or whatever his name is). They do the game of the week on Fox Northwest and for the life of me I don't know why they are still employed. They must know where the bodies are buried or something becasue they are the very definition of horrible.
