Do u think Philip Rivers is too cocky?
After watching some MNF last night (it was a doubleheader that featured the Pats v. Bills in the first game. then, the second game was Chargers v. Raiders.) i thought about when Philip Rivers taunted a San Diego defense man.  the defense man was on the ground at Rivers's feet after a blow whistle. Rivers was holding the ball, looked down @ the player and spiked the ball in his face. then had some words for him. Raiders players came to the aid of their teammate. the refs broke it up. Rivers caused his team to get penalized 15 yards. then, on the next play a offensive lineman jumped early. -5 more yards. the Chargers were looking @ a 2nd and 30 situation.

I personally don't like Rivers. never have. i think he's to cocky. he hasn't won anything to allow him to be so cocky. he wasn't a national champion in college. he hasn't won a Super Bowl or even been there. the 'other' 2 QB's from his draft have won a Super Bowl or 2.
So my question is Do u think Philip Rivers is too cocky?    Do u think Philip Rivers is too cocky? Photo

I dont think he is "too" cocky, but he he is cocky. He is a competitor, ya he gets fired up and probly could use a little work on controlling it while he is on the field. He wants to win and no one can doubt that. He is talented enough to take us to the superbowl and am confident that his cockyness wont get in the way.

Yes, he's way too cocky but most great players are to some extent.  I think it was Cutler and Rivers who were arguing from opposing sidelines a few years ago which was hilarious, but completely uncalled for.  Between the two of them, there's enough ego for the entire league.  I will say this much though, Rivers backs up his talk with wins and great numbers.

Yes, but that's why I like him so much! Unfortunately when it results in a penalty, then it affects the whole team. But to me, that means he is passionate about the game!  He can make horrendous mistakes and still make big plays when he needs to. Of course, he is always quick to place blame, but how many QB's don't?? He can be inconsistent but still put up big numbers and come up with the win. His personality is what makes him a great team leader! Yes, he is cocky, but it doesn't bother me!

{{Plus, I think he has an incredible smile!}}

Yes he is too cocky. Yeah everyone talks about his stats and numbers, but funny cuz for all that I still don't see him wearing a Championship ring! Same thing goes for Cutler. Didn't he try to compare himself to Elway? Puhhhleaase!

There are plenty of winning QB's that aren't a**holes.

i agree w/u. look @ the best in the league, Peyton Manning, he just goes about his business and tears it up. same goes for Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Donovan McNabb, Kurt Warner, Aaron Rodgers, and Ben Roethlisberger (except when he is winning Super Bowls, this is ok though. not b/c im a Steeler fan but b/c if ur winning u have a chip on ur shoulders).

Rivers has a cocky attitude to him, and it has cost him penalties in the past.  Yes, he is a competitor, and a good QB, but he needs to know when the play is over, go back to the huddle, and get ready for the next snap.  Now Norv Turner should be in his grill, and be lighting him up, about silly fouls, like the one in the Oakland game.  As long as he does this, teams will be baiting him to lose his cool...

The D pulls that crap on him all the time after a sack or whatnot. I don't have a problem with it, but I'm sure his 'Norvelicious' coach does.

 Well...In the 3 years Philip has started for the Chargers, he's won 3 straight AFC West Championships and 3 playoff games. He's hungry, and still pissed off about that Patriots loss during the 14-2 season back in 2006. The Chargers should have been in the Super Bowl during his tenure at least twice. He was the highest rated passer in the NFL last season. Rivers hasn't been to or won a Super Bowl, but the dude can flat out play....And he takes his hits like a Man. What is he supposed to do when 250-300 lb men are chasing him every play? Whisper "Sweet Nothings" into their ears? In the media, Philip Rivers is nothing but polite. He's honest with the community of San Diego, and he always takes time out to communicate with his fans. He's a tough QB who has proven that he can play in the trenches...A lot of fans are jealous of Philip Rivers,  and they would beg to have him as their starting QB this season. S.D. has been dying for consistency out of our QB since way back in the Dan Fouts days. We are a lucky city to have Philip as the Chargers leader. We're looking for 4 straight AFC West Titles and maybe a Super Bowl Trophy.

what do u want me to call that player? i don't remember if it was a defensive tackle, linebacker, cornerback, or safety. this seems to be what i said, ur pi**ed b/c i said something about ur 'great' QB, who hasn't won shit. im sry, WBKsports said Philip has won 3 straight AFC West Championships, so i guess i got that wrong. (i guess Chargers fans count AFC West Titles as relevent.)

i know about football, but i wanted to explain this situation in the best way so every reader could understand it a**hole!!!!!!!!!!! Must be something in the water out there in San Diego. ur an A** and so is ur QB!!!!!!!!!

He's no Drew Brees.

He's good for the Chargers. Their former "leader" Tomlinson acts like he's the only one on the team. It wasn't easy wresting the leader mantle from LT and yet Rivers did it because he played a playoff game with a torn tendon. When is the last time anyone saw Tomlinson play in a playoff game, period?

Anyone that can be a solid QB in the NFL has earned the right to think highly of themself. The qualities they poses and the attention given to all there moves, on and off the field, requies a certain amount of confidense.

Philip is a competitor and there is never any doubt that he is passionate about the game.  I like that he gets upset and gets fired up it shows he cares about the game and is not just content with a fat contract.
