They are spending billions of dollars on an allegedly "un-passable fence", that can still be crossed in certain areas (with the help of a high truck, ladder, or shouldering buddies) in a matter of around 10 minutes. I've seen live footage of illegal immigrants digging under and climbing over this tax-wasted barrier.

As a result, the city I live in (Phoenix,AZ) has taken Spanish as a near first-language and more crimes are being committed in the South-West US by runaways with warrants for their arrest in Mexico.

I do not believe that the government is doing enough to protect our borders at all. The one thing that I am not understanding at all, is that the government is still allowing people to stay in the country and work on visas and things like this, even though there are not enough jobs for the people who are citizens of the US. What the hell is the deal when the goverment can't open their eyes and see that the people of the US are getting deeper and deeper in debt, yet these people are still taking the jobs, and still sending the money that they earn out of the country. When will they learn?

To say we are threatened and NOT protect the United States of America's boarders is nonsense.  It's not intelligent.  Protect the people within your boarder and keep them safe.  This is a very prudent posture.

I think I need a border fence around my wallet! Tell the Democrats to keep their grubby hands off our money!!!

This picture becomes more and more poignant as every day goes on.

We had a situation where an Illegal Immigrant (hispanic) that lived just up the street from me. Abducted a 20 yr old girl on the streets of Saratoga Springs. He hit her over the head, stuffed her in a van, told her to undress, and then went on to tell her that he planned on raping , and killing her. Luckily, when they got out on the back roads she had sense enough to tell him that she had to go to the bathroom, and was able to take off and run to the nearest house and was rescued. Because of her courage, and description of the man and the van they were able to capture him, and have linked him to other crimes in the area concerning women.
Even though we don't live down south. We have alot of hispanic people that have moved into this area, because they find work with the Race Track, and local Horse Farms in the area. It is a situation that is getting out of hand all over the country.

Staying out of this one ... just gonna go check how much my 401k has risen since last fall.  You know, when the market started plummeting.  BEFORE Obama took office.
While I'm at it, I should check my pay stubs again to make sure I didn't just overlook these alleged tax increases that are robbing us blind.  The ones that somehow must have missed me and everyone I know.

It amazing I here they are going back. No jobs. My Niece had been to Ireland the past two summers this last one
she was turned around and told that they where not letting immigrants in due to the job seituation, so she was
detained and sent back to the US....Now..why cant we do that?????
#12 | 33 days ago

It's a difficult situation, but a lot of people look past logic.  Do you realize how many miles of border there actually are to protect?  People don't like to pay taxes already, and expect the government to continue to spend money on issues such as this..  As far as jobs go, whose fault is it that Americans have such a sense of entitlement that they believe certain jobs are below them (most of the jobs the immigrants do) and would rather collect unemployment than actually have to work.  That being said, there probably could be more that is done, but people and politicians are too concerned with their biased postiions to work together to make a difference

The Republicans did nothing about this when they were "in power" and the Democrats are doing nothing now. This goes back to corporations having undue influence on our government, with our boarders open they have an unlimited supply of unskilled cheap labor, keeping wages down.

I believe our President is doing all he can to protect our borders, but it will never be enough to satisfy anyone. There are too many ways in and out of the country and simply isn't possible to stop or cover all entrances especially with our military so sparse in the U.S. We need to bring our soldiers home and that would strengthen our country from the inside and allow us to deal with borders and other means of entrance or infiltration into the country. More resources should be spent in the areas of intelligence gathering and using more undercover agents outside our country to help with that Intel.

Why do we have Military Bases in Oklahoma, Arizona, Las Vegas, Colorado, and so on. It cost upwards of $50,000 to hire a Border Patrol Agent, not including the Vehicle and accessories. It cost $18,000 for a Private in the Armed Forces and they have tons of Vehicles and Accessories. Why not put Barracks all across the Border instead of in the middle of the Mojave Desert. But then again, what do I know??

No. I do not think the government is doing enough.  illegal immigrants come here and take jobs for less pay and beat out people who have had those jobs for a long time, but can not afford to take less pay for the job.  That is what they are counting on, that they are willing to live in this country and take up valuable space here for less money that they send to Mexico ANYWAYS!

Plus I am mift for all the War Veterans we have living on the street and people saying "Get a Job" to them.  Or worse everyone wants us to give our hard earned money to other countries for food and supplies. I thought charity began at home. What about taking care of our own homeless and jobless people.  It's not that I do not care what happens to other people but I see too many people in my own backyard and I would give to them first.

That's just me.

Too much money was spent on fighting a completely SENSELESS WAR in Iraq- and NOTHING was done to protect our Borders or our Ports (not to mention our Public Transit systems either)!  We ARE NOT any safer than we were before 9/11 and it's very apparent once people take off their political blinders and see this Country through an AMERICAN's eyes and not the eyes of their political Party!

Ummm, as I said, WE need not be  partisan on this issue. Yes, President Clinton DID sign NAFTA and the USS Cole WAS bombed during his Presidency- but Bush ALSO re-signed NAFTA (but it was even more expansive) AND The United States was BOMBED on 9/11 during HIS Presidency...... This isn't meant to be an argument- just stating FACTS!!! Each side of the political aisle has had it's OWN FAULTS in the security of our Great Nation- and  we ALL need to become AMERICANS again (and not Dems or Repubs) and realize that we need to work together to protect our Country- not against each other because of our political affiliations!  If we don't do this and FORCE our elected officials to PROTECT our interests (no matter what Party we support)- then the USS Coles and 9/11's of this World WILL continue to happen.....    Food for thought guys!

The Government doesn't "want them here to do jobs Americans wont do"- the GREEDY CORPORATIONS want them here! Once again, this IS NOT a partisan issue and Health Care has NOTHING to do with protecting our borders! This is EXACTLY what is wrong with our Country when it comes to issues like this, instead of dealing with it as a group of American Citizens- we start to mud-sling at one Party or another.

my opinion is simple, bring the troops back home from ALL over seas posts, and use the troops to protect the US. we need to stop being the worlds police and start protecting ourselves first, use the military to defend the borders, plain and simple.. im tired of all the illeagels coming here and getting everyting handed to them on a silver platter. they goto the Emergency Room at the hospital for a cough wanting health care, and of course they have to get it because they cant turn anyone away, and then us tax payers have to pay for that, when they could easily go down to the wal-mart or any place like that and get over the counter drugs to take care of it, but they dont want to spend their own money, heck no, spend the actual tax payers money.. i could go on with this subject, but i just feel we need to protect ourselves before we go being the worlds police..

I would say that your opinion is a bit outdated.  I would say that in the past, this was true.  Nowadays, these immigrants have taken the majority of our construction jobs, building jobs, meat packing/butcher jobs.  It is no longer maid jobs and dishwashing jobs that they have taken.  Now, not to put all the blame on the illegal immigrants because if they weren't given jobs, they wouldn't come in the numbers that are coming here now.  So the problem is with all the companies that are taking advantage of these people to pay lower and sub par wages.

As far as there being a lot of border to protect.... yes, that is true.... my opinion?  Do what every other (just about) country does to protect their borders .... put the military on it...... shoot first, ask questions later or... if that is too extreme... make some really dirty, nasty detention centers and throw people in there until they can be deported (Mexico does this on their southern border).

There are two reasons why nothing will ever be done despite the majority of US citizens wanting something to be done:

1) Rich companies will do anything to get cheap labor and the politicians will support them because it is the big corporations that fork over the money for them to get re- elected

2) The Mexican economy is fueled by the dollars that flow from the US to Mexico as illegals send money back to family members in Mexico...... the US government will not do anything to upset the Mexican government......

Just my opinion!

We waste so much money every year trying to keep them out, when the President is just going to make them citizens.
Most of the ones I have worked with come here for a purpose to send their money home.
On a average most stay for 5  years at that point they have earned enough to live like kings in their own country.
I would have no problem if they would come to America and keep the money they earned here in America.

What President Obama is considering is actually a BETTER plan than what the Republican HERO Ronald Reagan did!  Former President Reagan gave MILLIONS of illegal aliens AMNESTY! President Obama is NOT considering that plan, however he is considering making these people pay a HEFTY fine and making them "go to the back of the line" and applying for their Citizenship. He is also planning on heavily fining Companies that hire illegal immigrants as well. Will the plan work? Who knows, but it's alot better than giving them amnesty or doing NOTHING AT ALL which BOTH President Bush's and President Clinton did!  This "plan" is also a good start at trying to secure our Borders, but alot more needs to be done for sure.

This in no way was a political smear. I was answering the poll with an opinion, like I said I would not care if they stay. Then they can bring their families in and their families in. Soon with all the money coming in oh wait no money is coming in just more to take care of. When does it all end?

I agree 10000% with you, but this isn't happening and it's NOT going to happen if something isn't done about it! Fining companies is not working either, you see companies that are hiring illegals are also given a call when INS is coming and then the illegals just leave for a few days when the INS is coming.
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free.”  These words have warmly greeted immigrants to our country for many years.  Proudly displayed at the Statue of Liberty, these words send a message of hope to everyone who seeks a better way of life.  However, do our leaders truly embrace these words any more?  A few hundred miles southwest of the Statue of Liberty stretches a barrier-a steel, concrete, barbwire serpent of a wall-to peoples’ dreams who by birth aren’t lucky enough to be United States citizens.  Some people believe this wall should be there.  But this wall can stops dreams from coming true, these immigrants come seeking the American Dream when they are less fortunate they turn to crime, just as Americans do. Our country is in deep despair right now do we need more population to add to this?

Well if these Companies are getting tipped off when INS is coming- maybe we should find out who is tipping them off and put the "Traitors" in prison....  just a thought!  I have NOTHING against a person trying to better themselves and put food in the mouths of their children, BUT, if this is affecting the lives of American Citizens (U.S. Unemployment rate current at 9.9%)- then I have NO SYMPATHY for them! ok does this thing run out of paper at some point!!!! this is what i would do to solve that problem and also the problem of water to theswstates of the country......oh alright now first of all, all of the illegals that was caught in the sweeps around the country you start attwo ends one in texas and one in southern california and you have all the illegals you catch start digging a canal, and when it s about 50 foot deep and 50 foot wide all the way from texas to california you stock the canal with pyranias and your problem of illegal aliens are done....then you can set up plants to swicht the salt water to usable water for irrigation and that is problem #2 taken care of .......believe me a illegal watching one of his friends get ate up would stop all the problem of #1......

Here is where the big problem is!  In NC there is a huge illegal immigrant population.  I would say 90% of them could not be less interested in being an American!  Go through the center of town, half the stores have signs written in Spanish and these shops are run by ( I will say Mexican although it could be El Salvador or other Hispanic heritage) illegals and patronized by illegals.  They are not interested in patronizing American businesses.  Their kids don't play in our soccer leagues, they make their own leagues and don't integrate their kids into our sports organizations.  Unlike immigrants of the past who left their native language behind when they reached our shores and took pride in learning English, these illegal immigrants are not at all interested in speaking English.

Now I know this is a generalization, so don't bash me.  I can also tell you that there were a few kids of illegals that I coached (typically these few were immigrants that were interested in assimilating) and they were some of the nicest people you could ever meet.  I actually can't think of any illegal I have met that wasn't extremely nice, so don't get me wrong, I don't think they are bad people, I just think that what they are looking for is not necessarily in the best interest of the USA.
#39 | 32 days ago

I here ya!!! You think your "problem" is bad in North Carolina- take a visit to the Western States (especially Texas, California, Arizona, New Mexico and my home State of Nevada)- it is absolutely NUTS to say the least!   I'm a Union Electrical Foreman out here and I actually had to learn "Spanish for dummies" just to communicate on some jobsites- LOL! Most of the drywallers, concrete guys, carpenters, and Laborers don't speak English AT ALL (and yes- most of them are Illegal Immigrants) and it's a HUGE Safety issue if people don't understand each other!
