Money resembles status - What have you to say?

The Rich People feel that their Status in Society is due to the wealth they own.  They depict it by having a high air in their nature, style of talking, sophisticated behaviour, way of dressing, throwing parties for no rhyme or reason, etc. etc.

Do you feel that a person can have status without being rich?  How would you prove it in today's world?

i'd like to say that money doesn't depict status but it does 100%. image is everything. i make far below $30k a year and have a tiny one bedroom apartment, a car with about as many dings and dents as it does miles, my clothing style is my own and is in no way "this season's" or even three season's ago, and i live paycheck to paycheck gasping for a quick breath on the 15th and 30th each month only to go just below again in a few short days. i don't have a tv or computer in my apartment. in houston, i am ranked status wise - by those who don't know me - somewhere between streetdwellers and 30-year-olds still living with their parents.

but to the people who do know me, i am a good and happy person, i have a clean and inviting home, and i can make a fun time without forking up the cash. i'm trying so hard to not sound like a cheesy afternoon special, but even with the struggles i encounter with my limited means, i benefit from it as well. i'm not "snooty", "spoiled" and work hard for what i have in life. money would make things easier, but i'm just fine with my zero-status and $0.67 in savings.

Who's who in status in this picture?
In the grown-up world of business and jobs, people show their status by the clothes they wear at work. High status men wear grey suits and ties just about everywhere. (Why do people wear ties? What use are they? Suits at least have pockets and keep you warm.) Some really top status people wear crowns and very fancy clothes.
Or they have special names to show how important they are like 'Lord' or 'Mr President'. Or they may have servants and buy huge cars, mansions and expensive art works to show off their high status. Still other 'big shots' surround themselves with 'toadies' - lower status 'yes men' who 'suck up' to their boss, hoping that one day they'll get to be Mr Big. There are much ruder names for toadies!

There are all kinds of other ways humans can tell each other's status. More education = higher status for a start. Skin colour is important to some. In some groups of people, men have higher status than women automatically. Not surprisingly, many women don't like this. Even in countries where women are supposed to be equal with men, almost all the top status, best paid and most powerful jobs (president, prime minister, heads of corporations) are taken by men. We penguins share out jobs equally. Male and female penguin partners take it in turn to look after eggs and babies while the other bird goes off fishing.

Without money you can not survive in this world.....and unfortunately it sets your status.....but being a good human is far more better than being a rich person.......humanity gives you satisfaction and peace of mind while money makes you crazy....you forget your values when you are behind money and that makes all the difference..

Money....money...money.......! Money is not everything. Status depends on how you behaviour in a society and mingle with them with or without money. But you should possess some education, understanding and intelligence. You should be able to eat a meal prepared in a shanty dwell as well as in a Kind's Palace. If you can balance your behaviour in both places, you earn your status, no doubt.

Yes - I have heard the saying - Money can buy everything!
#16 | 29 days ago

yes and no. yes because academicians(or like minded profession) for example, has no money, yet they have status. they're being looked up in a society of intellectuals. and no for in a society where money is everything, intellect alone, will not make you an icon in the society. on the other hand, people with money but with no brains, and just became rich though shenanigans, are beiing looked up by the people.

Oh, you are mistaken. I was in America in 2007. I stayed 6 nights at Chicago Regency Hotel from 1st July when I attended the 90th Lions International Convention and visited its HQ in Oak Brooke. Later I stayed 5 nights from 7th July at my brother's apartment in Korea Town, LA and visited Hollywood, Universal Studio but missed Disneyland due to time factor. Do you wish to see my US Visa, lol?

status is what separate the classes of the haves and the have nots. to tell you the truth i  would rather be a have not than a have if having status means that i would stick my nose in the air high enough to get a nose bleed, well i will be white trash then........

many of us bottom feeders do good things in, and with our lives with limited means.  status only comes when you have the wealth to buy it. i'll take my life as it is.

Status does not necessarily depend on wealth owned by one.

This poll took me back to my school days, when a teacher regaled the students with a parable of Akbar the great king and his court jester Birbal, when King told Birbal that he had  dreamed of being in honey tank, and Birbal was in a filth tank, Birbal, replied, Oh, King, I too had dreamed, later when we woke, you licked me and i licked you.!
Money is important, but to live with money with humane life is worth  a status.

I believe status does not necessarily depend on wealth owned by one.  Education, intelligence, respect for others, good personal relationship with anyone,  and clean living can be considered as basis for a good image or status in society.

How do you do, Roger? why not visit my country, the pearl of the Indian Ocean with beautiful sunny beaches around the island and ideal for wind surfing. You can forget your stressy problems and relax while looking up at the blue sky. My country is "SRI LANKA", which is also called the Serendib Island. Roger, don't think twice, make it............................!

In todays lifestyle, people recognise you and look at you only if you are rich. Without money nobody respects you. Neither your relatives nor your friends come to you. Money is definitely the one thing which makes your status in the society.

STATUS IS ONLY A SIMPLE WORD, YOU MUST SAY IF MONEY IS NECESARY TO BE A  IMPORTANT PERSON OR NO.-  eACH BORN WHITH THINGS , PERSONALITY, ELEGANCE, INTELIGENCE, CARISMA, IS ONE THING THAT MAKE A PERSON BRIGTH  LIKE A SUN, YOU CAN LEARN TO WALK, SMILE, BUY , TALK WHITH STATUS,  BUY WHITH MONEY, BUT THE ELEGANCE, ETC YOU MAKE A PERSON DIFFERET, YOU MUST BORN WHITH THAT, MONEY ONLY BUY THE PACKAGE , NOT THE INSIDE OF A PERSON.-
