How will Alex Smith do against the Colts? (Edited 11/01/09 01:19AM by Scott)
Alex Smith threw for more than 200 yards and three TDs in the second half against the Texans on Sunday to reclaim his starting job. He's now the starter and will face the high-powered Colts this Sunday. How will he do?

Smith carried himself with some poise and understanding of the offense on Sunday which hasn't been the case since Norv Turner left. Granted it was against a terrible Houston Texans secondary. I think he will have a solid game against the Colts this Sunday.

O.K, O.K;  Smith came off the bench and had a great game against the *cough-cough* Texans last week- big deal! Even a blind chicken gets a piece of corn now and then- LOL!   Seriously though, the Colts ARE NOT the Texans and the 49Er's ARE NOT a good team (no matter who the starter is)!  Smith will have an average to below average game- just as every team so far has had against the Colts! My prediction:  Alex Smith goes 15 of  34 for 189 yards 1TD pass and 2 Interceptions!  (oh, and 1 fumble off a Colts sack)!!

I think the 9ers will get better over the rest of the season.  and if Smith gets benched after the Colts game, well maybe he should come here to Tampa and help the Bucs out.  Lord knows we can use all we can get!

The real question should be "Will he do better than what Shaun Hill would have done?"

The 49ers are an average team, just like around 70% of the NFL, including the Cowboys.

i think the only thing the niners have been missing is a qb..and smith proved under pressure he can still throw 3 touchdown passes.. you do remember when they played the 6-1 vikings right..the vikings barely got out of that game by a luck catch..anyway think about what your saying...go niners..screw shaun hill

Niners need more than a QB to win. Against Colts, they will find shortcomings in many areas. Colts have it.

this is not going to be a good game to judge alex smith. he will most likely have ample chances to throw the ball around because they will be playing from behind but I really think that manning and the colts are going to torch the 49rs secondary for about 5 tds. so smith will force the issue I am sure and will probably throw for about 175 1TD and 2 or 3 picks! at least thats how I see it>

Your right, the line has to give him some protection and he has to have some type of running game. He cant do all of it by himself. But I do think he'll do bettet than his predicecer.

The Vikings barely beat the 49ers... O.k.; maybe but the bottom line is that they LOST and they LOST to a much weaker team (the Texans) last week...... I have thought about what I've said and I'm standing by it- Alex Smith (and the 9ers) will fail miserably against the Colts!  BTW, you said " Smith proved under pressure he can still throw 3 TD passes"  Really?  The REAL pressure was the 49ers LAST DRIVE with a chance to tie or win the game and Smith threw an INTERCEPTION!

HMMMMM, just as I said!  Alex Smith had an AVERAGE to below average day against the Colts ( 198 yards  1 TD and 1 Int) and the 49ers LOST again!    The 49ers have a losing 3-4 record and the Colts are 7-0!

Yeah, and the niners aren't likely to play any team as tough as the colts the rest of this season, certainly not in the NFC west. And thus far the niners gave the colts the toughest game they've had.

Smith was average, true. But the niners as a team still look like they'll have enough to win their division. 3 of the next 4 for SF are at home and two of those teams are the horrible titans and jaguars. The niners will be over .500 by the end of November.
