Weekly NHL Power Rankings Poll 11/03/09
Weekly NHL Power Rankings Poll 11/03/09 Photo
So who got it right this week?

All but TSN have the Pens on the top while each ranking is fairly consistent in giving the Leafs and the Canes the worst rankings.

TSN got it wrong with the Canes at 29 instead of 30.  I guess we'll know for sure when they play Toronto Friday night.

I find it pretty funny that TSN.ca has the Coyotes at #2 and the Kings, who have scored 14 goals in three games going 2-1 against the Coyotes this season, at #13.

Having nothing better to do, I did a comparison for you, using the power rankings as they were at the time the poll was published (TSN.ca has since been updated): Sportsnet most closely tracks your rankings, leading in average error (2.933), root mean square error (3.890), and number of rankings within three places of yours (20, equal first with Sports Illustrated), whilst TSN.ca least resembles yours, finishing last in all three measures (3.600, 4.899, 16), in the first two by a non-trivial margin.  SI leads ESPN.com in average deviation (3.067, versus 3.467) and number within three (20, versus17), whilst the four-letter has a narrow advantage in RMSE (4.546 to 4.575).  There was (at least rough) agreement on the Sharks, Caps, Hawks, Senators, Predators, Wild, and Maple Leafs (each has a sum of errors of no more than four) but great divergence on the Kings, Sabres, Jackets, Lightning, and Devils (each has a sum of errors of at least 22).  And people tell me I have no life...
