What are some of your favorite "Simple Things" in life? (Edited 10/12/10 02:18AM by Jess)
Yesterday was Sunday.....I woke up at 6 am and realized I did NOT have to get up for another 3 hours.....so, I flipped my pillow over to the cool side and thought HOW GREAT it felt to not have to get up and to have a "cool side" of the pillow.  Here are some of my "simple things"
Cool side of pillow....sunrise at the beach (on the East coast.)...waking up, thinking it's time to get up and realizing you have HOURS more to sleep...FAMILY...making someone laugh...I want to hear your answers (take it easy on me...it is my VERY FIRST POLL!!!)

I love the sound of a train whistle at night
the sound of my daughters laughing together
Wrigley Field in July
A quiet Sunday at home with a Stephen King book
Going to an amusement park and riding roller coasters
I love cooking huge dinners and watching people love every bite of it
Chicago at Christmas time
And to me the best thing is laying down at night and knowing that I tried to make a difference that day to someone, if it's just a smile to a stranger or a kind word to someone who was down. If we all did that what a world we could possibly live in.

Putting a smile on a friends face

A child's laughter

An ice cold Bud when it's 98 degrees out, and the work day has really sucked

The smell of fresh cut grass, and the ocean spray on my face.

A nap on a Sunday afternoon,  riding four wheelers in the mud with my kids. watching my little 5 year old niece play outside, seeing her face when she sees something new, laying on the couch and reading a cheap romance novel.

Being on a farm in the spring with the new baby animals.
Hanging w/ my girls enjoying a cosmopolitan.

Watching my kids getting along and playing in the yard. Its a rare day when we don't have to race to school, home, to bed, etc. An unhurried day with nothing to do is a blessing.

The smell of rain
The warmth of sunshine on my face on a winters day
Icicles in the trees after an ice storm
Watching the grandchildren's faces when they "see" something for the first time and are in awe
Cuddling up on the couch with the grandchildren to watch a kid movie (which I absolutely hate, okay except Shrek and Ice Age)
Taking a walk with my hubby holding hands and just enjoying nature

Waking up and knowing its my day off
Rolling over and going back to sleep
Waking up and realising its still day off
Thinking about getting up
Rolling over and going back to sleep a little longer.
Waking up and wowwee it still day off
Stretching considering getting up
Rolling over and saying to myself....bad bad girl
Reaching out and feeling some  guy in bed with me
(ok the last was a fantasy)
Rolling over again and dreaming of some guy in bed with me

OK i dont get many days off  and am completely satisfied in that little thing.   The rest is gravy, all the kids , sun, rain. food , stuff. So where is my bed.  OH and some guy?
#12 | 1287 days ago

The smell of clean sheets fresh out of the dryer.
Hearing someone saying "Good Morning" and realizing it is.
An ice cold Corona Light after a long day of work.
Spending time with my daughters.

I love the smell of freshly cut grass or right after its done raining.  *I miss you spring and summer, please come back!*
Not getting waken up in the middle of a deep sleep. (Guess what happened to me today?)
Finding a crumbled up dollar bill in your pocket.
Wanting beer and then realizing I'm 21 now.
#14 | 1287 days ago

Smelling fresh air in the early morning while giving thanks to the Lord for a new day,   greeting my friends on the Q ,   having a good time with my nephews and nieces,  playing tricks with my dog.
#15 | 1287 days ago

Sleepin late on weekends
openning the door and watch its sunny and warm outside
Drink my first cup of coffee in the morning
running for work ( I looooove it)
to receive a lot of smiles, hugs and kisses from my students everyday
listening my favorite songs
a loooooooooong walk in the park
the truth is that I enjoy almost everything in my life, I'm a simple person with simple likes

Well, I can certainly relate to finding some extra minutes of sleep in the mornings. But Lately on the job site, there are these two Whiskey Jacks,(or Gray Jay) that always appear when we stop for coffee or lunch, everyone brings food for them now and it's really nice to see them just a foot away from you eating a cookie or a sandwich that we give them, they have become good little friends. I could watch them for hours.

Walking on the beach, sunshine kissing my skin.
Love without expectations.
Friends on the Q that make me laugh everyday w/o knowing it.
Waking up and realizing how blessed I am to have a wonderful life!

"I thought the comment you made was Smart" especially the last sentence... so much better than when they're misbehaving for me! And mmm... coffee... and yes... when what was otherwise a lousy day ends up with me finding a folded sheet of notebook paper on my desk, and I open it up to read, "Mr. O____, You are a very amazing teacher. Hope you have a better day than today..." Those, and kisses from your dog, are some of the best "simple things" in life.

Fresh cut grass.
A freshly cleaned house.
Clean sheets on the bed.
Anything that makes me laugh.
Having all my family together.

#26 | 1286 days ago

all of the above minus the teachers and my kid with her little legs running to me screaming mommy, waking up and breakfast is ready, being at home alone sometimes, having people who will always keep my child on the weekends...and then there's vodka, rum, grenadine, dvr's, caller id, music and host of other things that we take for granted.

have a great day everyone.

I haven't lived near a train track in so long I had forgotten how wonderful it was to listen to them at night.  There was one not far away from the house where I grew up as a teenager in Texas.  I loved to hear it at night fading into the distance .....  thanks for the memory.

zballa my step-son is in the Navy, he said the same thing!  So did my Dad and older brother!

its so different being cramped on a ship that looks so big but turns out to be so tiny theirs no freedom
#34 | 1285 days ago

You have that right zballa07.  They are huge vessels but the quarters are cramped as are most of the passages.  I've been on a few that have been decommissioned.  One of these days (if I live long enough to be that fortunate) I will get to visit a carrier.  My Dad was on several and the newer ones are even larger.  Makes you appreciate shore leave!
