My tree is already up and lit.  The other holiday decorations are a work in progress since I have SO much.
I guess that means I put out pretty quickly.

After my sons birthday on December 3rd.  I want his Birthday to feel like his day and decorate for him.  Then I will get the Christmas decorations out.

I don't celebrate Holidays, but when i was a kid, my Mom had the tree up and fully decorated the day after Thanksgiving.

I have to agree.  My family has 2 Birthdays in November and 4 in December.  Then I get the very "forgettable" one right after New Years!

It seems to vary year to year. I'll come back and let you know when we do this year.

December and January birthdays suck ... I bet you always got the combination Christmas/Birthday gifts too, didn't you?  lol  I know I did.
It was small consolation that my brother also got the combo gifts at Christmas ... and his birthday is in April.

Heck...what happens if you go through this long courtship, get married...and then you're not compatible between the sheets? What happens then? I guess you get to live the rest of your life unsatisfied in that department because a divorce is definitely out of the question.

Now back to the original question; I never put out but my girl starting putting out just after the halloween stuff was put away...

I think it's a good idea to just leave the tree and the lights up all year and be done with it.

I start on the day after Thanksgiving, that gives me 3 days to finish getting everything up.  I have way to many Christmas decorations to get it done in one day!

The lights and decorations are already up outside. The Christmas tree and the decorations inside will go up the last weekend in November.

My mom already has them up and has started playing Christmas music in the house (I'm stuck living with my parents this year).  She's like this every year.  Because of this, I will never put up any Christmas  stuff until after Thanksgiving.

I have an uncle whose birthday is Dec. 25.  Every year, he kept asking where his birthday present was, so my parents made a point of handing him his present and saying Happy Birthday.  (a large tin of popcorn, perfect for watching the games)

We still carry on that tradition to this day.

We always used to have to have the tree up for Susan's birthday December 7Th. She would have been 47 this year and mom made me promise to put a tree up by then. I usually do not do this, in Susan's honor I will. I am usually a BA hum bug person, I celebrate Jesus is the reason for the season, but the gifts are my family and friends without God I would not have this,.

Sounds like a bummer having to do it twice, but I bet the kids love it. Even if it distracts them from their schoolwork.
#34 | 1720 days ago

It was a one time job back in Dec '03 and I'm too lazy to do anything about it. My place is a year round celebration with the Christmas lights, but I tell the neighbors I'm running a disco during the summer.

No distraction.....since it's the kids work and arts and crafts that goes up. Besides I make them get into teams to put the stuff up and then to take it down the day before Winter Break.

I meant their eyes will gaze over the decorations during class time when they're supposed to be paying attention.

And, before the inevitable poll crops up as to when take it down - 1 week after New Years. NEXT year Jan 09 2010.
