Dolla' Dolla' Bill Y'all (Edited 11/25/09 06:29PM by Jess)
I've been known to go to the Dollar Store on occasion - I don't stock up on important stuff, because generally you get what you pay for and I'm all about quality. However, there are some things that it doesn't really matter. I've bought dish towels, camping dishes, wrapping paper, and Christmas-y tins for goodies there. A couple of years ago I bought a mini tree and all the trimmings for my daughter so she could have a holiday tree in her room. And once in a while you can find some really cool stuff there; my mom bought me a set of ceramic wind chimes that are beautiful - though they'd never hold up in the wind. I have them hanging in a bay window.

I'm a teacher------------I shop at any store where you can get things for a dollar.

Best find---were these really cool oil pastels. I bought a whole class set 4 years ago, use them all the time still. (though ....they are getting quite small now...lol)

I've gone there to buy things for Church activities.  Like little prizes for kids for events and supplies for Sunday School....   I moved this summer though and there isn't a dollar store in our area (I don't think...).  So I use the Oriental Trading Company website for those things now.

We have several stores in the chain Dollar Tree here. I tell you, dollar stores are much better than they used to be! We get liquid soap... doggie pick-up bags... plastic food containers... disposable cups... occasional snacks. There was a lot of cool stuff at Back-to-School time also. We just do not have expensive taste-- except maybe all the Dell computers.

I browse dollar stores every so often, but I often come out empty handed. Most of the stuff I see I can't bring myself to pay a dollar for.

yeah....and imagine if I didn't have to buy a lot of my own supplies, I could afford to eat more than PB & J every day.

Just remember to claim that $250 teacher deduction on your taxes.

Actually, I've never done that. The standard deduction has always been more than we would get by itemizing. (God, I'm talking about income tax returns. When did I grow up?)

I've bought little cutesy things for work ... stickers, little dog-themed items, etc.
I even found a wall clock there once ... I mean, it broke after a few months, but it was a good temporary solution to my time management problem at work.

I'm also a huge fan of the office superstores (Office Depot, Officemax, Staples) in early August. All those five-cent rulers and ten-cent packages of notebook paper. I have assembled quite the backstock shopping those.

Footlong gummy worms! They are about as big around as my thumb, come four to a pack and they're made from some sort of "weaponized" sugar. They're cranktacular!

I bought candy because I realized Halloween was the next day, and I should probably have something. I also went there after going to Spencer's for a friends b-day party, I just needed some cheaper crap after spending most of my money on stuff that probably wasn't necessary...

My wife loves the dollar stores, and she finds great things there for birthdays and the holidays.
We once found some CD's on books from the Bible, and gave them to my brother for Christmas.
The only thing i will never by there is food, i just won't go there.

The one here in town is the only place I can find chocolate covered Tootsie Rolls, which are amazing...so yea I've bought candy there as well. I've also bought spices there. I usually buy them at Costco but I had a paprika emergency. I like the little shakers their spices come in - the lids are great.

Lol "paprika emergency". You know me by now that I take my spices very seriously, and wouldn't consider buying them at a dollar store. But then again, I'm well stocked I don't think I'd ever find myself in an "emergency" like you.

Hmmmmm....those Office superstores don't limit you to ONLY 5 () in Colorado like they do here? My best stop for school stuff is Target.

Sounds like your dollar store is the equivalent of our Chickenfeed stores. I dont know if you use the saying. *It costs chickenfeed* hence the name of the store . We also say *Cheap as chips*  but that would mean something completely different if it was a store.

#1 I only go there while my daughter is getting her hair cut next door. I used to go there often when I was still with her mother.

#2 A cool little jazz statue. I don't know why, but I like that little piece of crap.

#3 The mother mentioned in #1 loved that store and would easily buy $50 worth of crap that came out of my wallet.

I went to one yesterday, I bought over 100 dollars in toys. When I got to the register they asked if I wanted to buy a dollar toy for Toys for Tots I said no. When they rang up my purchase, I said no need to bag them just place them in Toys for Tots, the cashier cried literally.
I went purely for the intention of shopping for the less fortunate, I am blessed and I hate to think of kids doing without.

When I lived in Illinois the Dollar Store was the only place in town to buy anything without driving 30 miles.
I bought 10 quality gifts for $5 each and donated them in the giant box they had to give to families in the area.
We buy some cleaning supplies and disposable aluminum pans, wrapping paper and bows.  You should check out there stock prices, very good value and on the rise.
