Who is better? Dale Jr. or Kyle P.
oh after the last tirade of who is better Jeff Gordon or Dale Earnhardt Jr. i decided i wanna do some better.. lets throw Dale Earnhardt Jr in the ring against Kyle Petty.. Both have huge shadows of fathers to stand in.. so let me throw the stats up here and then i want to see what your opinions are..

 well obviously Jr. has more wins.. but what i find interesting is the average start to average finish stats.. Jr. quailfies higher then he finishes.. thats never a good thing, unless you always qualify on the pole.. but you should generally try to finish higher then you qualify..
Both of these drivers have had huge shadows to come out from behind, i will say one thing to Kyles defense though.. i feel the racing was a lot tougher back in the day as opposed to today, im not saying its so much easier now, but back in the day you had way more competitive people instead of only a handful of really competitive guys.. but thats just my opinion..

 How many years has Junyah been racing, and how many years has Kyle? What are their age differences? Those are also relevent to this discussion.  I do find the pole stat interesting, though!

Regardless, like I said in the other thread, Statwise, Junyah has faired better than Kyle, yet where are the threads complaining about Kyle?

  I think Junior is the better driver, but I don't think people have made as much a big deal about Kyle as they do Junior.  And Kyle has always been about the business side of racing instead of the driving side.  Kyle raced just to be out there, Junior races to win (theoretically).

ok hang on, let me get some more stats..

Age : 34 / 48 as of 12/1/09
Years Racing : 11 / 30 as of 12/1/09

yeah Jr. has faired better.. and as Dave has stated.. Kyle was more out there just to keep the Petty name on the track.. which actually i have a feeling Jr. is starting to do also..

I would give you and Dave both respect if I could, but I am out. You may be right about Junyah.
I said in a thread a while ago, that I really look to Junyah to go to an owner/driver type situation, if next year does not go well, and actually, even if it does.. He marches to his own drum anyway, or so it seems ( Kelly is always there pulling strings in the background). Smoke and Tony have a great relationship, and the common thread is Rick, so seeing Junyah and Smoke involved in some kind of limited partnership come 2012, wouldn't be a shocker to me at all. Besides, if that happened, there would complete and total Hendricks engine dominance, that not even a Petty would be able to rival.
Just my opinion. I just dont see Junyah staying at HMS past next year.

Back to the question though, it proved my point well....even though Kyle has a dad just as famous as Junyah, he never faced all the crap that is thrown at Junyah, because of Sr. Junyah has talent, and skill, if he'd get out of his own way once in a while, I daresay, he could get back to the numbers he put up in the beginning of his career!

Jay, before you go off talking about how much more that Kyle has done for charity than Dale Jr, do some research. Dale JR Foundation has done immense charity work, not to mention his involvement in Victory Junction and Make A Wish, and Oak Ridge Military Academy.

I really don't think a driver's benevolence should come down to who has done more, just thankfulness, that they do!

 This one is as easy as they come.  I'd also argue that it was the other way around with competition.  IMO there are more guys who can win every week now than there were 20 years ago.

 Both guys I think we can all agree are superb with their charity work, and the two guys I think we can all agree are not as good as their fathers...at least I hope we can all agree on that, it's very difficult to find some common ground between people when we have a poll with the name Earnhardt Jr in the title...

The stats tell you that Jr is better, but is that because he has had better cars? In reality his stats should be much better than they are considering where he has been racing for the past two years, and towards the end of his career Kyle didn't really achieve a great deal, but yeah overall I'd give this round to Jr...I look forward to whoever Jr has to face next in one of these polls

 Kyle was a good driver in his day, while his father was a great driver. His son Adam what like a reincarnaiton of Richard - watching him on the track, you just knew he was going to be great.  Unfortunately, we will never know how great he might have been, but without his death, the VJGC might not exist, and that became Kyle's focus once Adam died.  i honestly don't think he really wanted to race any more after Adam's death. 
As far as Junior is concerned, his stats are better than Kyle's in the shorter time he has raced.  I agree with Bryan that the competition is tougher now than it was back when Kyle was racing full time.  I'm not making excuses for Dale Jr.  I hope he can get back on track, but like Andi, I wouldn't be surprised if he moved from HMS and did something on his own or with Smoke.

Jr. never got to race BEFORE restrictor plates. If given the opportunity to, I think he'd fair far worse than Kyle did. Kyle's real track savy. He has a feel for high speeds(208+) on the big tracks. Races with his head, not his gut.

you know i see that happen alot, i think some people dont want others to see what tehy really think about a poll or something, or just do it to rag on certain people.. to me its just lame.. and i suppose this person just happened to open his account today??

Truthfully, I wouldn't want to be Kyle or Junior. Living in the shadow of either of their Fathers would be an awful hard way to live. As far as comparing them, yes, Junior is the better driver. I feel that a lot of Junior's problems are all the expectations that people put on him. He can't do anything without the media jumping all over it. He has stated many times that all he wants to do is drive race cars. Agreed, he had a horrible 2 years. There is something that just isn't right for Junior. Hopefully whatever it is, he gets his head together during the off season and comes back next year full throttle and I think he can. I too agree with Andi and Deb...it wouldn't surprise me one bit if there is something in the works with Junior and Smoke.  I've been thinking that since Smoke made his announcement last year. Junior is a lot smarter than people give him credit for.  Nice pole John, thanks!

 True,  Kyle never wanted to be a race car driver.  He wanted to be a singer and after that he turned to racing when his singing career didn't go anywhere.     Kyle and Jr's driving styles are similar.   The age difference and the differance in the cars they have drove over the years makes it hard for me to say who is best.  I will give Jr. the edge.
