Is Ryne Sandberg ready? (Edited 12/08/09 07:12AM by cubsgirl)
So Ryne Sandberg is the manager for the triple a Cubs, congratulations to him. My question is this, is this just a formality before Wrigley, or does he truly need to stay at this level for a couple of seasons?  Personally I hope to see him at Wrigley in 2011. but maybe thats just a fan remebering the player, what do you think?

Sandberg  will be ready by 2011 if he shows a successful stint at AAA Iowa. He is obviously being fast tracked with intentions of a managment position with the Cubs.

But lets be fair, If Lou has a more than successful year in 2010 and takes the Cubs further than they have been recently (the Big Game), he should not be kicked under the bus. It should be left to his decision (and deservedly so) on whether or not to return to manage the next year.

He'll definitely be there in the next couple of years.

He'll be named as Lou's replacement on December 20, 2012, then the world will end. It's in the Mayan calendar!

I think he could probaly handle the job tommorrow if it were offered, but a little more experience doesnt hurt. Look at Jim Leyland and Earl Weaver, they both paid a lot of dues, but when their chances came they were among the best.

I completely agree, I am a huge Lou fan and I hope he stays with the Cubs, I just think he looks well very tired.

Great players don't always make great managers..... Give Rhino a few years at the lower levels and he may be ready then. Rush him in too soon and he WILL be fired within 2 seasons.......

Well first of all, it's not Ryan, it's Ryne. Geez, "Cubs"girl. And secondly, great players often don't make great managers or coaches, because, well, they don't understand being average. But I wish him all the best, he was one of my favorite players back when I watched them on WGN as a kid. In fact, in high school I owned a Cubs Starter jacket. No kidding.

good point about at least a couple of years at AAA, but I think Robb may be right about it being a fast track, and I think I agree when Lou says goodbye I

I think he will have a good year in AAA this year and will be ready if Lou is ready to move on after this next year. If Lou isn't ready to move on I'd like to see him become the bench Manager under Lou. Lou experience could teach him a lot about coaching.
Yes he's ready.

I think he'll need to be a bench coach at the major league level before even trying to take over the team.
